Default Edge of mouse pad - 05-16-2012, 22:31 | posts: 222 | Location: Los Angeles

Does anybody else get extremely uncomfortable when a friend is using your computer and they can't keep the mouse away from the edges of the pad? I have a nice mouse, and a nice pad with plenty of space, but for some reason, people can't seem to play in the center of the pad! There is a metal edge to it and every time I see someone get the mouse close to it I can't help but to cringe.

I realize it could be an obsessive aspect of my interest, but how do people not notice that they are potentially degrading the surface of the bottom of my mouse?? I would hate to think a single death is caused by tread marks in the bottom of the padding.

I really hope I'm not the only one with this issue. Is there any way to train people not to put my hardware and kdr at risk? Should we start a PC gaming-style doggy daycare?

Hahahaha I hate people going on my comp full stop.

Its my "personal computer" and I know how it works. Others to me just have no clue of what to do. Most people I know do not even know how to use Windows 7 properly!! They still say "why does it have to be so complicated, why can't it be like XP" LMAO whilst I too loved XP, Windows 7 is just better and more advanced to me.

Also, my mouse mat is a Razer Mantis Control, and its MASSIVE. Its meant for MMO's, and RTS games mostly. When people use my PC and I see them trying to play games with a mouse like COD, or BF3 I just laugh because they can't do not understand how to strafe (WASD) and turn (AIM) at the same time. Yet they can use a console controller no problem and to me that is not a fluid as you get with a mouse and keyboard.

When I get into conversations with people about gaming, and I say I play PC and they say "oh you play farmville" and I just slap them round the head and say "NO! I play everything fps, rts, mmo, racing, fighting, rpg, etc". Then they say "oh with a usb contoller" and I again say "no only for racing or fighting games, otherwise I use mouse and keyboard"... The look on their face as they try to figure out how that would work is freaking hilarious!!!

I simply refuse to let ANYBODY use my pc; it’s locked in my office and pw protected (not that it can’t be easily cracked, but...).

Many years ago, friends and family thought I was being ridicules; but over time they realized that my pc is setup and runs exactly the way I want.

The last thing I need is some “expert computer user” to infect my machine because they were visiting “their” safe sites; or as you say, break or damage something.

I get the same look on my own face when i hear someone plays fps on a console at 30fps with a controller more then a metre from the screen.. I'm like "how do you fix the lag?" they are like "what lag?" then I'm like "how do you get a mouse and keyboard to work o.o..?".. urg

When i let people try a game on my computer with mouse and keyboard i see them constantly looking at the keyboard trying to find wsad again, that's always funny. Most of the time i just set up my wheel and joystick (as a gear stick) and show them a racing sim since it's something they can understand.

I found the solution to mouse pad annoyances was to not use mouse pad at all.
Haven't used a mouse pad in years.
Sure I have a dungeon pc, a pc locked away from anyone else and no one touches it unless I'm asked and even when asked I give that one eye browse raised look 0_o
But I also have a few other pc's scattered through the house where I live and I just let others abuse them as they please.
Anytime I want to see if hardware will work trouble free I set it up in my lounge room and let others use it for a bit first.
If it survives my lounge room for a month with all the transient people using it then I know that hardware is fit for my dungeon..lol

Ahhh I'm so glad I'm not alone in my intensity about my machine.

Controllers homogonize console gaming way too much. The universally low response times dumb down the populations' expectations of how to perform well in a game. I feel like wireless controllers transfer the accessibility of video games onto a similar difficulty level as watching TV. 90% of gaming can be relaxing for the body, but shouldn't be relaxing for the mind. I think that people expect gaming computers to be toys like their consoles, and treat them as such. We (assumption) see them as works of art to which we will only be as brutal as the hardware can handle.

Wow this is a random thread.

I think you said it best yourself dude, you clearly have an "obsessive compulsive" problem.

Problem is, it can't be help when incompetent people help you develop said problems.

Don't even get me started on that!! we'd end up owning the thread with just that one topic.

But yeah, I made a vowel no one touches my computer without washing their hands. If they do... Look out!

I'm the exact same way, have a spare laptop and PC for everyone else.

The other day my sister in-law came by and she needed something done, I load it up and she starts to point at the scree, in my mind I'm thinking 'PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREEN' and she does, I cringed inside. Why do people have to touch the screen.

And all of the above posts also.

If you have this much of a problem with it then just don't let other people use your computer. Simple as that.

Screen touching irritates the hell out of me... it’s not a touch screen so no need to make contact with it, this goes for any monitor.

Also an obsession from me. Always hated it when I had greasy hands myself, hate having a bad grip on a mouse or controller. And for some reason every time someone touches a mouse or controller it suddenly feels all warm and mushy... ffs.

I wash my hands pretty much EVERY time I touch something that has at least some moist or greasiness before going back behind the PC.

It's in fact so silly that when I eat something behind the PC, I'll only use my left hand to eat so that no grease or moist touches the mouse.
