Well, I arrived at Wortham last night and the game took a complete nosedive. How can the game use 75-99% gpu and 15-30% cpu in all previous areas and then use 50-65% gpu and 2-3% cpu in this fiery hell? Looks to me like something is going on with the cpu usage when it stutters/frame skips.
I'm running at 1600p maxed in game, nvidia AO quality, forced 16x AF, clamped lod, max performance, HQ filter, single display accel.

Just to let you all know, this stuttering is a common problem with many people, and most don't have SLI nor 680 or 690's, it TOTALLY has no link with those cards!!! Maybe it's because you have such fast cards that the problem is even more noticeable, that is very possible, but a TON of people have these stutters.
I get it too sometimes and it's abnormal, it's a game or driver problem.
Usually it happens when the game needs to load new sound files etc, and yes it happens with people with SSD's too.

There have been mass threads on Blizzards forums about this already.

Thanks much but they didn't help. With further testing I notice that when the stuttering gets bad -and it's more like frame skipping to me- my fps are at down to 45. I cannot understand why I'm only getting 60% usage out of my cards and 3% cpu with such low fps. I have even tried reinstalling the game to my os ssd with no cure as i thought maybe my game drive could not keep up (wd black). I'm totally baffled as even putting everything on low settings improves nothing

You have a different problem then as most people get stuttering with high fps, when it doesn't go under 60 in any case.
Different problem, that might be in fact a true SLI problem, but then again, SLI is full of problems all over the place.

Edit- I am a complete idiot although I am amazed it caused such a massive hit. It was AO on Quality that was killing my fps and causing the skipping. Dropped it to Performance and now its a million times better. Still getting the occasional stutter but fps are pegged at 58-60. Weird that the cards would not work harder to to compensate for the Quality setting. I am sure they could handle it but whatever. Sorry for derailing the thread and thanks for all the advice

But that's just it, it's that occasional stutter about which everybody is complaining about, it shouldn't happen as this is a low performance game and should run supersmooth without any stutter at all on highest settings with AA on.

have you tried lowering the number of sound channels? i found that when i put them on anything but low or lowest, game stutters more than usual

I won't argue with that. Many say it's caused from streaming data from their servers which means nothing that can be done on our side (its the same with my on-board and a nice intel nic).

@Rapyer. I have actually noticed that when I go lower than 64 the game runs considerably choppier. I can't tell the difference between 64 or 128 though. Proof that we are still beta testing

This game doesn't officially support SLI/Xfire anyways. So it's hit or miss with most people.

Nvidis has a SLI profile out for the game but Blizzard doesn't officially support it. There are quite a few people on the forum saying it isn't working, others say it is. Like I said, it's a hit or miss.

i fixed my stutter microstutter issues with doing >

ingame Vsync enabled
Msi afterburner Fps cap 60
d3doverrider Triple buffering ON

Without doing these thing above 1st open game , stay at the same spot, and CTRL-R to see fps . See fps going up and down. Now Open ingame Vsync, u will see fps still not stable at 60, its like 60 61 58 120 (yes sometimes its going above 60 alot not sure why). Then do the thing i said above, go ingame and check CTRL-R again.

There are still data loading when u 1st enter game and used the spells etc. Then everything is so smooth now. Didnt tried threaded optimization.

And sometimes after long play times, it begins again, and closing ingame vsync and open again fixes things. Sometimes u need to do this 2 3 times , no idea why.

edit: i dont have sli setup...

Downloading latest 301.40 beta drivers to see if that will help

Cheers guys
I have diablo3 and GTX680SLI 3D and no problem at all with the game but i set my management power to Prefer maximum performance in nvidia control panel. the card will stay at 1006 min. and gpu boost will get higher. I use adaptive Vsync.

Someone on the Nvidia Forums explained why some apparently see the stuttering and some don't. It really clears things up

brah, you have to remember, a large portion of GTX 680 owners are nerds with glasses so think they can't see a football flying towards them until it hits them in the face.

You seen the movies right This issue may not be noticed by everybody, due to the target audience of the Geforce 600 series.

full on nerdsville brah.

I had the stuttering issue as well, it cleared up completely when I disabled vsync.

This is with a GTX 670 using the 302.59 drivers.

That's because it's a vSync issue.

If it's that simple, why is there a 63 page thread about it on the Blizzard forums?

Maybe they're referring to different issues, I don't know. I'm just posting that disabling vsync fixed the problem for me.

Same here. It looks extremely jerky with v-sync off and I can see what looks like a severe ghosting-type effect when moving around. The v-sync stutter might be annoying but it's the lesser of the two evils IMO.

Tried all possible in-game settings but to no help. Running MSI AB in the background shows that I'm hopping between 55-60 fps. Some areas are smooth, others aren't.

I've also heard that this is due to the streaming which doesn't work very well especially since I have 250ms. TERA or WoW run at 20-40ms though so it has to be due to the fact that the D3 servers are overloaded.

Regarding the Vsync stuttering problems I've noticed this in TERA, BF3, D3 and RAGE so far (at least that I can remember).

I fixed the stuttering issue by capping my fps at 60 w/ MSI Afterburner. Use this with vsync on. Sometimes it takes a few mins for it to kick in. Now my fps sits at 60 and doesn't skip all over the place even though vsync is on.

680 sli here. no stuttering. my settings are:

in game
frame limits off
vsync on
fullscreen windowed mode (only because i do other stuff while playing )
in game antialias off (looks **** and apparently causes stuttering)

nvidia CP
CSAA 8x
transparency MSAA (SSAA causes texture degradation)
aniso 16x
AO Quality
power max
vsync adaptive

No stutters, fps never once moved from 60 (but then to be expected with 680 sli)

I also run AB in background, so it isn't interfering at all just FYI.
