Default cpu upgrade - 05-11-2012, 12:36 | posts: 2 | Location: ireland

Hello,i've recently got a asus m4n82 deluxe mb & had planed a phenom ii 965 be to replace my very old athlon 64 x2 5000+,average £60-£65 on ebay.
Now with little work it will have to wait & i have my 2.6 athlon running at 3.0 with my first oc.
My question would a Athlon X2 7750 BLACK EDITION - 2.7 make much of a differance from my 64 x2 5000+ ?

Thanks for any help/advice..

No.
A Phenom II 955 (C3) will overclock easily if that helps with your options.

Agree, no point upgrading to anything other than a Phenom II. Squeeze some extra life out of that platform

Some comparisons:
Athlon X2 5000+ versus Phenom II X4 965 BE : +200-300% faster
Athlon X2 5000+ versus Athlon X2 7750: barely any difference

Any recommendations for a good site/shop for phenom ii 955,965 be.

Phenom X4 965 BE boxed £78 on amazon.co.uk

X4 955 used sells for around £50-60 on ebay

Yeah, just get a 955 or a 965 — a dual core first gen Phenom (which is what Athlon 7xxx really are) won't give you much of a difference performance-wise.

Besides, the 955 and 965 usually overclock at up to 4.0 (even more if you got a good overclocker) if you need even more power. That and you can undervolt them to save money and decrease heat when running at stock frequencies.

I save almost 20 W at max clocks on my 965 due to my undervolt.
