Go for it mate, though even 1 GTX680 in a HTPC I think it nearly 50x what you actually need. I thought they were meant to be quiet, cool running, and mainly for general PC stuff (web browsing, office, and some light gaming). But hey, if you want to blast BF3 at max details and you have the monies. Go for it!!!!

Just make sure to "hack" pcie 3.0 driver or there will be pcie bus bottleneck.
Check this thread;
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...ic=226569&st=0
He posted 2 videos pcie2.0 vs pci3.0, maybe ask him for more info.
btw all x79 mobos support it natively and nvidia needs to do some more homework.

Indeed. I just agreed to that this setup is hilarious in its beastly unuseful performance ^^
to the OP: enjoy mate, you probably deserve it. My recommendation would be, if you have the money, buy it, but with sense in mind. Remember: EVERY PENNY WASTED ON SOMETHING UNUSEFUL (for example 2x 680s in an HTPC) can be used for other stuff like a better audio system or a better screen.
just remember that !

Be good if you could return 2 of the GTX 680 and get a GTX 690 for that HTPC.
Reminds me of that saying "Good things come in small packages".
I don't see 2 GTX 680 as overkill for a HTPC, should be a min requirement in today's day and age of tech toys
Congrats on your new toys.
Cheers

You will regret not putting that under water man, the noise will drive you nuts.
680 runs quite alot cooler then 480s and 580s, so I wouldn't be surprised if a single 480 rad could cool 4x 680s, have to keep in mind you don't need sub 40 degrees during load to pull nice OCing results as long as you don't saturate the rads to begin with the cards will be fine sitting on low 60s.

Definitely seems to be an HT/Gaming PC... being that HTPC means Home Theater Personal Computer, and things like low power consumption and silent operation tend to be key requirements for such a system.
That Phantom will be quieter than a stock fan, but far from ideal for during quiet scenes in movies.
Nice new gear though... have fun building, and keep the pics coming..

An active fridge maybe?

A fridge would be a dumb idea since the compressor would die out from being overused. What he needs is a plane ticket to the arctic.

With 4 680s you could get some immense processing power in folding, SETI, or whatever else you want.
There are non-conductive liquids he can immerse the entire computer into to get some amazing cooling. Mineral oil, for example. I'll never do that, though.

You KNOW that 4-way SLI isn't supported by Nvidia, dont you? I mean you can run a couple of benches, but games... and expect them to work well.. ummm you'd be bettert of with only one GTX680. lol

I'm pretty sure that Gainward cards are different from reference cards so there will not be waterblocks for them...perhaps for the new 6xx series, but i know you couldn't get them for the 5xx series cards

no wonder there is a short supply of 680's... because of people like you buying six at a time. I can't even buy just one!
