Default motor bike advice - 05-03-2012, 22:35 | posts: 11,834 | Location: nottingham, uk

hi all im thinking of going for a ped/bike... now i have a cbt about 1year old and i have 3-4months road use of it on a 125cc auto ped, the bike was works and after i left i couldn't afford to get my self my own. but now im in the position to look at it and im thinking about them and need your help

now the bike needs to be 125cc due to CBT limitations so i have came across a ped i like

Typhoon 125
http://www.smalleycross.co.uk/new-sc...io/typhoon-125

but ive also been looking at manual bikes, now ive never ridden a manual but im allow to on the cbt license so would it be more beneficial to go manual?

i mean the bike a seen is twice the price of the typhoon and is more complicated as its manual, so what are the pro's and con's of choosing the bike below instead of the auto ped

Yamaha YZF-R 125

If you have never ridden a motorcycle with a clutch before, I would suggest that you learn how to before getting one, or stick with an auto. I prefer a clutch over auto anyday of the week, but thats just me. They are fairly easy to opperate once you get the hang of it.

Yeah learning a manual bike can be difficult; as firestorm said, i would learn to ride one before buying one and see if you prefer it. i like manual better but everyone is different

I have ridden a 110cc moped with semi-auto transmission, a 250cc manual clutch, and a 110cc automatic. The 250cc gave me a broken bone so I gave up speeding with a motorbike.

I find the automatic is more convenient and relaxing, and it's a lot safer because i never wanted to ride fast on it.

It took me about three days to master the manual transmission of the 250.

If you do not need the speed and the look of the yamaha, go with the auto

Actually, learning to ride with a clutch is not as hard as this lot are making it out to be.

It does take a bit of getting used to but after around an hour of riding you'll have the hang of it.

As for the bike, the Yamaha would be the better bike for reliability but the scooter would be more comfortable IMO

I've never even heard of motor bikes being automatic..craazyy!

For me riding a motorbike is all about the experience, and having manual control makes the experience all that much more fun. As far as pro/cons, only cons I can think of is..forgetting to downshift when coming to a redlight/stopsign, popping the clutch to accel and take off only to look like a fool killing it, or clutching to slow down and dropping the gear before you are at the correct speed.

I'd definitely get the yamaha, since you mention the price being more..don't go for such a sporty bike. This one perhaps, around the same price as the scooter http://www.smalleycross.co.uk/new-mo...yamaha/ybr-125

the 125cc yamaha is a joke..
You can't have a "street" bike with 125cc.. It's just plain wrong, and sounds even worse..

Get a scooter..

Hard to drive a manual bike with clutch? What? My brother taught me that in 30 mins when I was about 12. Everyone can do that.

In my day only girls rode scooter, I wouldn't be seen dead on one

Anyway my advice is to go full licence and avoid the whole 125 thing.

For a 125 cc 4 strokes, that's quite big power. Most 125 cc 4 strokes mopeds only produce 7 - 9 kW.

Aprilia RS-125 is way more powerful but it's 2 strokes
