MSI 7970 Lightning and 120hz -

Basically i'm an idiot and didn't read up before i bought the MSI Lightning to find out it only has Single link DVI. And at the same time i ordered that i ordered a 120hz Samsung screen because it was on offer and has a get the VAT back scheme.
So does anyone here game on 120hz and if so is there a massive improvement over 60hz. The screen will still be miles better than mine atm quality wise, i know the card is fast as hell but i don't want to miss out on 120hz if it's the bees knees.
p.s I got them on finance so it will be a ball ache to return them which is why i'm asking

Spoiler. Reading on is just depressing.
Coming from my Asus VG236H (I think it is) to these Dell 60hz screens im using now is pretty lame. I absolutely love my 120hz. Not just for games but even desktop browsing, just moving the cursor around amuses the hell out of me as it is so smooth. Games were even better, you can set it at 120hz and never really have to bother with VSYNC, you get hardly any tearing. And if you have the grunt to play VSYNC'd games at 120fps well... Nothing compares, so smooth, so fluid. I also noticed that when using the screen in 60hz mode it was actually far worse than my other native 60hz screens.
Maybe you could try using a mini dp to dual link adaptor? (I hear people dont have much luck though)
You may be really happy with the purchase but i would try to switch the monitor/card if possible. No point having a 120hz screen if you can only use 60hz.

I have the 120hz 27inch samsung with 2 7950's and the monitor comes with dual link dvi cable and thats it. I believe you can get 120hz from the minidp port also but you will probably have to buy cables for it. I find it really shocking that a 7970 wouldnt have a dual link dvi port.. that seems insane to me. yes there is a massive change going from 60hz to 120hz, when i first to do fresh install it defaults to 60hz, then after drivers and all that i change it over. goes from slow flickery 60hz, to smooth 120hz. i cant stress how much better it is, worth the money especially if you game. one downside if you cant maintain 120fps in your games you will notice laggy gaming fps drops. the main reason why i ended up adding another 7950 sapphire oc. now in bf3 , and any other game 120fps stays solid and very smooth.

Cheers, i'm gonna change the card, i got about 100 quid off the monitor so i'm not changing that. **** knows how i missed the DVI part out, though I don't think I'm daft expecting a 400 quid flagship card to support Dual Link. Was planning on sticking an EK waterblock on it when it's released for some nice OC's.
Might just get a reference gtx680 and slap a waterblock on that once i get a new case.

Once you play at 120hz you can tell when any game is on 60hz just by looking at it, 120hz is super smooth. Night from day difference imho.

Which Samsung monitor did you get?
750D series requires DP for 120Hz output. If your 7970 doesn't included a MiniDP-DP adapter you will need to purchase one or get a MiniDP-DP cable (The cable supplied is standard DP).
950D series will output 120Hz for both DVI-D and DP although I recommend DVI-D as DP is finicky (random disconnects, I experience it with my 750D).
120Hz is definitely worth it over any 60Hz monitor though. Not only is it a noticeable difference gaming, but the smoothness is noticeable on the desktop (as someone else had already stated).

I have the Samsung S27A950D, and its awesome, the only problem is the reflection on the screen when you have alot of light and its displaying dark images. So if you can't use this monitor in a darker enviroment its bad.
