Default I Got 2500k, should I get the 3770k? - 04-30-2012, 02:28 | posts: 82 | Location: Toronto- Canada

I know that I shouldn't since the increase in performance is barely noticeable since IB is a "TICK" in intel's plan.
I have read where the 3770k is only 1-5 fps better than the 2500k.
I have also read where 2500k is way better than the 2700k and 2600k.
So is the 2500k enough for now until Haswell comes or is there a better processor out there for gaming.
Is LGA1155 the best socket for gaming or should i try lga2011 or any other ones?

Theres little point in upgrading of you overclock.
Any extra performance of IB is negated by higher clockspeed of SB.
Get a better gfx card and a 27" 3D screen

I already got a 7950 and 3D LED S27A50D
I mean that some benchmark shows 2500k a little bit better or equally better at some games

If you already have a Core i5 2500K, there's little to no reason to upgrade to Ivy Bridge. The only people who should upgrade would be from a much older microarchitecture (me incl.) or those who value the IGP and would benefit from the Intel HD 4000 (HTPCs and laptops would fall into this category).

Other than that, no reason for desktop users who have graphics cards.

2500k is never better than 2600k 2700k. It has less cache so always slower. Even at same clock speed and hyper threading disabled for respective processors

Ivy Bridge is worth the money if you play ArmA 2. That game is still bottlenecked by a 2500k @ 4.4 ghz from my testing.

If you buy a hyperthreading CPU. You should hack the Windows Registry to never have any of the cores parked. If the cores start parking and then switch back you have some kind of lag or stuttering.

Hyperthreading works fine for gaming here when exploited correctly. It's the power saving that came with it that makes it bad. I manually disable that power saving feature

How I tested this is with ArmA 2

first benchmarked on 4 cores and then on 8. Also compared with core parking on/off

But in general with other games you won't notice it...

Depending on how far BCLK overclocks go with IB i might get the i7-3770 instead because it has vt-d and few other useful things. If BCLK overclocking can get me to 5ghz. Which will be fairly improbable, I would get one 100% sure.
