I have 3 harddrives and i will need 2 of them for a system i am building ( 60gb, 80gb and 160gb ). How can i check if the HDDs are ok ? I used HD tune and checked the 80gb WD and 160gb hitachi.
- They both showed error "Ultra DMA CRC Error Count". I have to say that my fairly new WD 640gb on my main computer also shows this error. Description ( reading from WD 640gb ) is: Number of interface communication errors: 59.494 . There were communication errors. This may be caused by a damaged cable. Soo what is with this error ? My old disks are ata, WD 640gb is sata2.
- Hitachi ( 160gb ) also showed 2 more errors. Reallocated sector count ( number of damaged sectors that have been replaced: 90 - the drive has damaged sectors AND number of sector replacement operations: 106 - status OK. This harddrive also has slower speed then it should have ( about 28mb/s right now ) and occasionaly ( rarely ) makes loud clicking sounds, like 10 in a row. It also seems to be active at all time, even though disk is basicly just storage. Is it completely dead or do u think i can save the disk soo he could be used for storage ? Maybe with that chkdsk operation i can save some sectors ?
