I was thinking in getting a solid stat drive as a boot drive maybe 120GB for windows only and using a second drive for programs. How is the Patriot Pyro 2.5" Solid State Drive?
Looking for fast boot times and lower the noise.
Second hard drive will prob be a WD 3gb green

I wouldn't use a green drive for programs, their intended purpose is low intensity data storage, such as music, movies etc.

In theory the ST2000DM001 should be good for what you need, however I had had 2 out of 3 go bad on me... still I believe it may have been a bad a batch (the serial numbers were close, whereas the good one was a little different), so I got another 2, which I had intended to anyway and returning them under warranty. These aren't enterprise strength drives, but they should be fine for programs, and any other storage you need (this model I am referring to is a 2 platter, 2TB drive, 7200rpm 64MB cache, but there are 3TB versions that cost more). Being a 2 platter drive the power efficiency is supposedly quite good.

Using a green drive for programs etc may still be okay, as long as you don't overstress them. Also load times etc may make games a bit sluggish to start, and games that use streaming textures may be disadvantaged.

Well do you guys think it's a good idea to use the solid stat+large capacity drive like i was planing. Or just use the large capacty one and partition it (save that way.) Eather way i don't really care.

If you do go SSD, I wouldn't get an ultra fast one, since its not really worth it on a computer that only supports SATA 2? (or 1?). Not only that, with 1GB of RAM the pagefile would be in heavy use, which will kill a SSD. With only 1GB of RAM, an SSD really isn't worth it - I'd only suggest a SSD with 6GB or more RAM.

On top of that, a 3TB drive probably won't be supported on your motherboard (at least to be able to use it to its full capacity).

Most motherboards should support it fine, it just won't be bootable.

I know people hate on green drives. But I have four Samsung 2TB F4 'Eco Drives'. And they're faster than a lot of old 7200rpm drives (which loads of people still use).
