Hi,
Ive got my first android phone. experia S.
i was wondering if WI-FI is possible if tethering is not allowed by my provider ?
or are they 2 seperate things ?
the thing is , i want to remotely control my pc through realvnc. already saw a client in the android store, but as soon as i start to make a wifi connection it disconnects. and there is no entry in my router that it wanted to make a connection.

You should be able to connect via Wifi. Is your router showing up in the list of Wifi networks?

Tethering and WiFi can be two different things. You don't have to enable tethering when you enable a hotspot. Just ensure to disable your 3G/4G data connection before doing so or else it will be considered as tethering.

yeah it is, entered the password (supposed wpa/wpa is ok ? , asking because my 3ds doenst support it and needed a older protocol).
its logging in , then disconnecting.
im not sure if the phone should be listed in the client table in the router tbh, since ive set access to certain mac adresses. ill have to recheck when im home

if you have your router set like that, you may have to manually set your phones mac address and Ip address.

im sure tethering is not allowed by my provider though, so if wi-fi should work it should be the router

wifi should work regardless if thethering is allowed. also, if you have your router set up to accept certain mac addresses, your phone probably wont show up in the client list. Thats why iI said, you'll have to add it in manually.

I just use Splashtop for my remote desktop. You just need a small program (splashtop streamer) running in the background and you can connect via wi-fi at home or you can log in with your gmail account and access it from anywhere. All its doing is streaming the video feed to you so its not system intensive on your phone/tablet. Give it a look. Its worth the 8 bucks (for the HD version, 5 for the normal).
