Question Less max OC due weak PSU? Plz help - 04-21-2012, 18:34 | posts: 405 | Location: Germany

As title says, my system as i bought it run 24/7 prime/occt/intel burn test- stable at 4.4 ghz with 1.28 v vcore.
Lets say a half year later i must go to 1.30 v vcore for that and now it only runs stable at 4.2 ghz with 1.26 v vcore.

Could it be my psu is dying? Memtest say ram is ok, only thing i can find is that volts on sensor V6 going from 0.92 v to 0.61 v on stress testing but cant remember if that was already like that.
I ordered a lc legion x2 1000w meanwhile but maybe the error is somewhere else.

So my questions is, could it be psu related or is my cpu worse then before or my mb? Temps in all cases are ok and even on stress testing below 70°C.

The only way to see if your power supply is dying is with a digital volt meter and see if the rails are dipping under load. The other way is switching it out.I've never heard of LC legion power supplies so I don't know if they are quality units.I have had cpu's over time degrading but that was when I was pushing higher volts through them and yours aren't that high. The motherboard power regulation might be going out of spec but you can't tell without switching it out.So start with the power supply and see where it leads.
Ok I found this so the LC is not stellar but not bad.

Have you changed anything in that rig lately? Like adding more sticks of RAM perhaps? How much sticks of RAM are you using anyway?

Thanks you for your reply. Wow you found a test in my native language.
Like you wrote its not the best but for that price and the fact that i never run a dual gpu system it may be enough. I got it for 127 eur thats ok.
Ill install and test if it arrives, i also have a digital multimeter but have lost the bookmark from the guide.

Check if your CPU and GPU run on the same power rail. You have 3 power rails of 25A

So i build in the lc psu now.
PC is now stable again @ 4.4ghz with 1.30v vcore.
PSU is cheap assembled but works for now...
Bad thing is there is no manual no description for what plug is for which of the 4 (5?) 12v rails. So i cant use it full.

Update:
Pc was still not stable @ 4.4 ghz.
I switched back to my enermax psu and running my rig @ 4.2 ghz.
Dont buy that lc psu, its very very loud, i had a noise in my mic if its under load, you even dont know what plug is what 12v rail, short cpu-power cable etc....
