Yeah.

GF104 - GTX460
GF110 - GTX570/80
GF114 - GTX560ti

Using that, it does make it look like this might of originally been the GTX660, but there is no way of knowing if Nvidia changed the naming.

I've never even bothered to run the Heaven 3.0 benchmark with extreme tess and assumed my 580 would get around 40fps if the 7970 and 680 were getting 54-57fps.

There was a slight hitch probably due to a background process running that led to the 10fps min but it only lasted for a fraction of a second. If that score is for real I'm extremely unimpressed.

edit

580 was at stock speed.

I'm actually impressed with Nvidia over this. Probably what should have been a '660' on par or better than the 7970. This looks like it may be an exiting year for GPUs lol.

Time will tell. I still think this chip was meant to be the top of the line but bad yields caused them to label it as mid. So it could have disabled cuda cores.

If that is the case we will be in for a treat when the fully unlock GPU arrives.
nVidia never released a mid-range card first.

@alanm

What for making a midrange "500$" gpu? lol

Imo both AMD& NV 28nm are weak and not really worth if you already have a "high-end" last gen gpu. Especially not for 500$/€.

But i dont blame AMD, i blame NV for making such high price for 580gtx in the first place.

Yeah 6970 was slower with lower price, but now that 7970 is faster then 580gtx of course its gonna be more expensive. If nvidia lowered 580gtx prices before AMD 7970 lunch things would be a lot different.

Now its only us consumers that got screwed big time..

imo the best card to come out of these new 28nm cards is the 7870. Very nice performance for a very nice price.

Nah, i would say the 7850 has been the only decent card so far.

The 7870 has good performance, but is also very overpriced, AMD either need the money, or 28nm is costing them alot.

Greed. Not that I think it will be $500 but enough to undercut the 7970 to make a significant dent in its sales.

Of course no one will buy a mid-range for near $500, but they may if they though it was the top card. Hence Nvidia naming it the 680.

they can slap $650 and it would still sell like crazy, and that's a fact

now keep discussing GTX 660, mid-range, high-end, what's in a name...

crappy supply, get it? they can sell them off of a garage... together with those two trucks left of AMD cards

Well if it is ridiculously overpriced someone should just buy one for >$500 and smash it with a hammer on Youtube. Or is that too 2006?

the only and one point is that...kepler is still unbeatable...much faster than 7950 equal to 7970 or faster/slower depend on running...kepler is the whole family of GK...not only 104...

it's like amd would launch 7870 first...they would be embarrassed and have a huge disapproval...be patient...nvidia is just playing with you and amd...they are bigger than you and amd...

I've seen the price of £260 being touted for the 7870. That seems to be good value for money.

Thats the rumours, so you could be paying £450+, for a card that should be what, around £300 or less, as its the mid-range, but with it being on par with the 7970, and those being £450+, then you really can't blame Nvidia for wanting the same.

Um idk, actually they made a ton of money on Nvidia's 580gtx account, so this dream has to stop

Hopefully nvidia will follow and really use 350-380$ max price for this "high-end" 680gtx.
