Default Sleeping Dogs - True Crime Reboot - 02-08-2012, 18:21 | posts: 1,456

Quote:
Square have announced John Woo film: The Game, officially titled “Sleeping Dogs.”
It’s a reboot of the True Crime series, which Square Enix picked up from Activision back in 2010.
It’ll be “a gritty and visceral openworld cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong.”
It looks a bit like GTA, except with more meat cleavers.
It’s out “in the second half” of this year.

Looking quite promising and since Square is supervising it, this could be something to look out for this year.

Going by these screenies, it could be awesome. Let's see if they make before GTA V - which is the only game to threaten them i guess.

Could have sworn I saw a trailer for this like a year or two ago. Same character and place.

Edit: I was right! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWagXEnK-2o

Maybe they polished it and changed the name.

Edit 2: One more thing I noticed at the end of the old trailer is Activion and now it's Square Enix. Are these two related in some way?

I only clicked this thread so I could say it better be a really good reboot because streets of LA was no GTA - more like a driver game. Not bad - but not really enough to do!

True Crime on the JC2 engine in Hong Kong...this will be epic. Loved the first two True Crime games, even though the second was a bit buggy.

The original True crime on PS2 was a complete load of TOSH,graphics looked good just like this game here,it was nowhere in the same league as any of the GTA games, completely average at best,GTA games are far superior in every way,i wont hold my breath for this,i predict it wil be better than the last true crime games but still not as good as GTA,saying that Squaresoft are behind it but still i dont think it will be better than GTA.

+1. No way this game will sell anywhere near as much GTA 5 will...

When GTA 5 is released, the simple posters/ads and release dates will cause panic across the country and queues of people will be waiting to get their hands on the game.

It will be sold out within seconds nationwide once it's released. The same will not happen for this game.

When GTA IV was released people were running out after 12:00 at night and there was queues waiting to buy the game...

It's simply due to the name and popularity of the game...

Nevertheless the japanese looking game still looks great but will not be on the same level as GTA IV and never will be.

You weren't supposed to play it like GTA...that was the point. You were a cop.

Im talking from a development point of view wether your a cop, robber, traffic warden or an Ice cream man,the quality in the development was nowhere near as good as GTA,the gameplay, characters, story, and most importantly the Gameplay was inferior, the graphics wernt to bad but ill take gameplay over graphics always.

I know you're not addressing me, but I my point was about volume of actually entertaining content working with the open world you are given.

True crime didn't really do that, but then every single non GTA game is the same in that respect!

If they really pull all the frenzy driving, woo-like shootouts and in-your-face fighting this'll be godlike. Imagine a well polished game like GTA (more or less) with even better gameplay mechanics. Orgasm.

Yup. It has bikes, shootouts and fighting in a Bladerunner-like environment - what could be better?
