Well despite what I posted last month, I've managed to convince myself that the Vita would be a good purchase and pre-ordered one today from ShopTo.net. What changed my mind was seeing the device in action via a 6-part in-depth YouTube video feature and how impressive the games looked. The thought of playing something like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, an otherwise ordinary game on the PC, is just so tempting as that would be perfect for passing otherwise dull lunch-breaks at work. I hope that the platform gets lots of RPGs. Hell, I even buy Skyrim again if it came out on the Vita.
I've ordered the Wi-Fi model with FIFA 12 for £229 along with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Rayman Origins and Little Deviants plus a 16 GB memory card and official Starter kit. This will be the first handheld I've bought since the original Gameboy Color back god knows when.

Played nearly all the demos on the demo unit at GAME in Wolverhampton.
I haven't bought a console since ps1 so this PS vita is perfect for me. I pre-ordered a few weeks back, wifi model and Wipeout.
The launch line-up is actually really good, possibly one of the best launch line-ups I've ever seen.
Of all the demos the one that impressed me the most was Fifa and I'm not into football. It just looks and plays really sweet. Another suprise was Virtua Tennis 4, simple game, but, awesome on vita which suprised me. Wipeout plays well, but, I feel theres minor fps issues, it's definately not 30fps all the time. Everybody's Golf suprised me aswell, a very good port. Ridge Racer plays well and is pretty cheap on ebay (£15).
The worst game was Modnations, rubbish Mario Kart clone, graphics also look upscaled. Super Stardust was also fun for a while with great dual analogue controls, but, maybe too simple for me. Don't know anything about Uncharted, but, only the graphics impressed me, gameplay seems boring and fps seemed low (some night level I played at GAME in Birmingham).
Looking forward to Marvel VS Capcom 3 and SF X Tekken (these 2 games is what I really want the PSV for).
Worst thing about PSV is the memory card prices - around £85 for 32GB (ebay) and that's for import, there's no official 32GB card here in Europe.

ShopTo.net are already processing my order for Wednesday which is exciting!
I've ordered the following:
PSVita Wi-Fi Bundle with FIFA Football (with free headphones, etc.)
Official Starter Pack (case, wrist strap, screen protector, etc.)
16 GB memory card (I wanted a 32 GB one but they're not on sale in the UK)
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Rayman Origins
Lumines Electronic Symphony
Wipeout 2048
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Virtua Tennis 4
Little Deviants
While it is great that all the PSVita's launch games can be downloaded for a lower price, the benefits are offset by the ridiculous prices of the memory cards. As such I've decided to buy all games on physical media and use the memory card for smaller PSN-only games. Maybe the cards will drop in price or an SD card adaptor will be released?

I skipped UK memory card pre-order and just bought the 32GB on ebay from buytoy2 for £70 which isn't too bad.
Darren, I think you've got most of the good launch games there (Fifa, Wipeout, MVSC3, VT4, Rayman and Unchartered).

Its coming.
Re: £70 for 32GB memory card, I think that's a good price considering 16GB is ~£40. It's well known that these cards are expensive, but, you've got to remember that they're faster than SDHC speed 10 cards and allow faster texture streaming than ps3 is capable of. Another thing; many others are selling these 32GB cards for £85-120 so yeah, £70 is fair.

It depends, do you want to email and facebook people whilst knobbing about with fart apps and throwing moody birds at walls, or do you want to play games?

I already have a PSP 2000 or 3000 and I play Scrabble game on it. I think that it may hard for me to use a tablet because I have some cerebral palsy and arthritis. I don't want to waste $200 to $400 on a tablet if I have problems using it.

The virtual touchscreen controls games use on tablets/phones means just about everyone who tries to plays games on them struggle.
They are the pits.

still refuse to pull the trigger on this.
The original psp line-up was impressive and had lots of future promise between games, movies (umd's) etc.
Fool me once...
I played with a unit, looks nice and all but again, like the psp, it will dated looking in a year when the next-gen of consoles hit the same way 360/ps3 hit a year after psp. Then you're basically stuck with an inferior graphics unit pushing out weaker looking ports of it's console brothers.
When you initially get past the hype of there being a new "toy", realistically, no one will be using this thing a year from now with how fast cell phones are updating, new consoles coming and dev's still on the fence with sony and handheld's.
I did go out and buy an xperia play phone yesterday and I love it, all I need on the go are ps1 and snes emulators/roms and I have them now with a phone that has a ps-style controller. For me, Vita needs to be more than just a game machine for me to have interest in it, because like I said, in a year when the games aren't as impressive looking as they are today, then what?
Xperia continues to push out games while I can call, text message, surf the web wifi or not, etc
Vita is just too much of a one trick pony for me to invest in, especially with the sour taste the psp still has in my mouth.

If there were any good games, would there be any that didn't use god awful virtual touchscreen controls that are the gaming equivalent of getting poked in the eye with a sh**ty stick?

The issue is a bad game in your eyes is a good game in another's.
I agree, touch screen sucks, but you do realize the heavy implementation ps vita is bringing with it's touch screen, right? Watch videos of uncharted, wipeout, etc. Heavy use of the touch screen.
I've read bad reviews on Uncharted and Wipeout, apparently both get quite annoying with it's touch screen use and both, wipeout especially, have horrible load times.
