Dell Streak 7 Thread -

well it finally came in last night after almost 2 months of being on backorder. also found out that dell discontinued them. for some reason i got the tmobile version instead of the wifi version. theres was no option to choose between the 2 when i originally ordered it, so i was like WTF. hopefully i can still use it with out inserting the sim card that came with it as i have no plans to use the 4g service. if not, ill just send it back.
havent had a chance to do anything with it yet. once i took it out the box, i put it on the charger. if by some chance i can use it without the sim card, its getting rooted and flashed. thats for sure.
i was looking on xda at some roms, so i will definitely try them out. also noticed an ICS port is being done. im not sure which rom is on it, i think either froyo or hc. so who else ownes one of these and how do you like it?
post your comments.

heres a few screens.

Bought one for my dad, put the latest Android 3.2 on there (one from 5 days ago w/ fixes) runs fine works pretty well the only thing that I'm not a fan of is how you can't charge it from the usb cable (connected to the pc) and the low battery life but if you're just going to use it in the house/office and not out for a long time (without charging) then its a good tablet. Aside from that speciwise its pretty good tegra 2, 5mp/1.3mp, would have liked it if it was a higher resolution (800x480) but i guess thats decent. For the price its not bad, tablet is a tablet but my gut tells me I should've waited till after CES with the new tablets $200> with native ICS and some with better specs. May or may not return it but that all depends on if my dad cares or not, hes not much of a tech savvy person and I just wanted him to start learning and having access to fb to contact family and stuff so I can't really be too picky on the device.

Yeah it's not bad, I wish Dell went with a higher resolution though with the Streak 7.

that res is ok for some things. the tegra zone has a bunch of games and stuff that just fly on this thing. but i fount out 3 things about this tablet.
1.the 1ghz dual core processr is down clocked to 800mhz.
2. at full charge, there s probably 3-4 hours battery life if your not doing anything taxing. i was watching a movie on netflix and finished children of the corn and made it about halfway through freddy vs jason before i got the notification i needed to charge it. so in other words, the battery life sucks for anything other that web browsing lol. just my 2 cents.
3. this tablet gets super warm. but it isnt something that is of concern
other than that, its not a bad tablet. it no asus transformer prime, but it gets the job done. now if i can just get this damn thing rooted, ill be happy. i have someone comming over to take a look at it because obviously im doing something wrong. cant believe out of all the andriod deviced ive rooted over the years, i finally come across one that wants to be a pain in the ass.

lol, that's like the most basic requirement for rooting man lol . Don't worry we all forget basic things all the time, sometimes I forget to run myself as root on Linux when doing some tasks and I'm like ... how the hell am I not getting permissions to do this? lol

there really isnt many to choose from right now, but this one allows for those awesome overclocks. battery life wont be worth crap lol. what benchmark utilities are there for android? mainly for cpu and gpu. i tried looking on xda but i didnt see any listed.

Linpack is always good for benchmarking same with GLBenchmark 2.1 for Android for GPU benchmarking.

well after a day of messing around with this, i have to say its a definite keeper. i flashed to a rom called StreakDroid. its basically an ICS themed rom. it has the icons, skins and wallpapers. also all the bloatware is gone.. managed to free up almost 900mb of internal storage. boot time has drastically decreased. this thing loads up in about 13 seconds. here are some screens.

these next 2 screens will show the overclock i was able to achieve and stll remain stable. also the benchmark i took as well.
