Not wishing to dispute how great 7970 shapes up to be, I kinda don't agree. Apart from multi-monitor setups, my combination works great with all games I've thrown at it. The actual numbers for 5870 CF are actually very high as per reviews that rarely quote this combination possibly because it makes so much sense economically.

With my CPU at 4.25ghz and GPU at stock setting, I believe I score ~P84xx. With the card OC'ed @1125/1500, I got just under 9k.

Overclocked 5870 CF to 890/1290 and got P8695. Can't link to it though. An interesting bit is that Graphics Test 1 on my system is way higher than even your overclocked 7970.

Graphics Score 8934
Physics Score 8697
Combined Score 7242

GraphicsTest 2 51.6 FPS

Hmm..which driver version you're using for your CFx setup right now? The driver i downloaded from AMD website looks kinda special as AMD named the file as "amd_radeon_hd7900_win7_64" and not "11-12_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl". seems like AMD have their own special driver for 7970 but lets verify this. with yours.

you're using an older driver than mine..maybe if compare raw power, your hd5870s are more powerful. i believe the reason why my score is higher than yours on graphic test 2-4 was basically due to tesellation. Graphic test 1 dont utilize tessel engine as much as GT 2-4, i think so.

You'll need to EDIT these numbers for the framerates as the table lost spaces between the graphics test number and those rates. People will be blown away :-)

Unigine test at 1680x1050 using the official comparison thread at forums. overclockers. co. uk /showthread.php?t=18249292 (note AA at 4 that needs to be set)

HD5870 CF overclocked at 890/1290

FPS: 70.3
Scores: 1772
Min FPS: 40.0
Max FPS: 160.5

Any 7970 results to compare?

My GTX580 @ 920/4600 + 2500K@4.6GHz gets:

FPS 73.2

Min 39.1

About 10% slower.
It will clock higher but I'm keeping temps below 65C.
