Default Mobo Gbit ethernet port takes ages to initialize with Win 7! - 10-31-2011, 09:05 | posts: 3,376 | Location: Old Europe

I have the Gigabyte GA-X58-UD7 board, which comes with 2 gigabit ethernet ports. When I (re-)start my computer and it loads into Windows, it can take several minutes after the desktop has loaded for the internet connection to be established. In the meantime, the blue circle is showing up on the network connection logo in the bottom right tray. I connect via cable straight to the modem/router. This did not use to happen. Changing the port, the router or cable did not make a difference.

What is very strange is that while the network is waiting to connect, the system seems to be on hold. I cannot open up programs such as media player or explorer. Only after the network connection is complete does the program launch. Until then, it's like the system "hangs".

When I recently tried the W8 build, the network connection would come up within seconds after post, so I am not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. Any ideas?

I did some more research, and it turns out what was responsible for the hold-up was some random service from HP (my printer). What I did was opening up Services.msc and stopped the service CUE Device Discovery Service from HP. The printer still works, so there is no reason to keep it running.
