I got some problems getting 5.1 to work on this motherboard.
It says it supports 6 channels (5.1).
But i can only get the front speakers and sub working, but the rear speakers aren't working. Here is a pic of the inputs:

I use Logitech X-540 speakers.

just buy a sound card if you want 5.1 working

It does, you will need to run it through Coaxial or optical Digital sound... Not through analogue.
Just buy a Coaxial cable, or an optical cable and hook it up to your speakers/receiver... What setup do you have in terms of speakers and receiver???

The Microphone and line-in jacks are changeable, such that they also output the rear, and centre/subwoofer channels. What you need to do is download the latest drivers from Realtek (don't bother with the ones on the Asus site, like with almost all drivers motherboard manufacturers don't update them). Then, through the Realtek sound panel set your sound options through there
The jack-sensing should detect the speakers, the front speakers should be plugged in the green, rear speakers blue, and centre/subwoofer pink (pretty sure thats the right way around!). In the Realtek control panel you can click on the speaker outputs etc and make sure everything is set correctly.
You do not have to bother with digital connections etc, which is why the speaker set doesn't come with it sure, it would sound better through digital, but you probably won't be able to tell, and it makes the speakers much cheaper.

I have the same speakers and i had to buy an extra PCI-E Soundcard to get it work.
Maybe you can change the Mic and the line-in jack or just set it to the "Matrix-Mode".
I use the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium and i am more than happy.

I think the best advice we can give you is just to invest in an add in card.
I understand that is not really your questions but onboards are really low quality and they seem to always have some type of issue. The headache is just not worth it for what you get back..IMO.
You can pickup a Xonar DS that would easily surpass the onboard for about $30.
The choice is yours though.

I can assure you there's comming really good quality out of it.
I gave my friend my auzentech bravura 7.1 soundcard, then i'll keep that one till i get a new card.

Doubtful. If you like it though, great. I would still suggest you go with an add-in. Do you mean you are keeping the Bravura until you get a new one?

Doubtful? I had the best soundcard out there, it was from auzentech and was brandnew 200 euro if im not mistaken.
From what i hear now fromt the onboard sound it's pretty close to that quality.
But i had a Z-5500 back then, maybe i will hear difference when i get better speakers.
Next year i'll get a high end soundcard again (the best out there) with some high end speakers what my friends have in school for there study.
But i don't know the name of the speakers, and i'll need receiver for it to work on PC.
You are ovbiously a audiophile so that might be why u find it doubtful,
that the onboard produces high quality.

I thought you were talking about getting good quality from the onboard.
There is really no such thing as the best soundcard because audio is subjective, unless we just go by measurements.

Yes, if you are having difficulty hearing difference between onboard and a good add-in card then you need better speakers.
Logitech's are not very good speakers, even their more expensive sets.

That is probably a good idea as better audio is great for movies, gaming and music.

I wouldn't say I am an audiophile, but I enjoy great sound quality and I do what I can do, to get great sound quality, such as modding, tweaking..testing, measuring..etc. It's my hobby.
I have heard many onboards, including the newer ones and while they way be good enough for you they don't compete with modern soundcards. If you were running a good soundcard, compare the specs of that to the specs of the onboard you are using right now and you should see very large differences. If you are having difficulty hearing the differences if doing a A/B test then you have issues in other parts of your system.
Anyway, that is not really the point or question here. My advice still stands though, get yourself a quality soundcard and some good speakers/headphones. I think you already have this in mind though.
On topic, Did you get the onboard configured right or is it just a case of it not being possible to use analog 5.1?
Many onboards these days have multi-jacks that can be configured as different I/O. IIRC, you have an ALC883, so if it does have the configurable jack I/O set them the way you need to.

Multi-jacks is what I was mentioning in my post further up I was assuming the latest Realtek driver hadn't been installed, and either an ancient Realtek driver was in place (might still have those features) or using the standard Microsoft audio driver.

Wow hold on cowboy hahaha thats massive expensive man
That will blow up my windows It doesnt need to be 5.1.
2.1 or 2.0 even is fine for me
I can only buy it when im off my bills i still have to pay, it will take like 4 more months or so (yeah i have financial problems )
My budget would be 500 euro i think. At my friends school they use 2 speakers and was told that there freakin awesome and the prices of thos each was 150 euro.
But i dont know wich brand.
After that only a receiver is needed right? But first i want to hear you're best choice for that budget, my budget may be greater it's just an assumption.
edit: but wow that's one hell of a receiver, i think i will get that one for sure lol then ill just safe some money.
