How old were you when you got/bought your first mobile phone? -
08-11-2011, 19:24
Sometimes I see kid of really young age who have rediculously expensive mobile phones. They dont have any use for it, besides showing off and being robbed by kids of just a few years older.
But thats not why I made this thread. I made it because Im curious when you got your first phone and whether you bough or got it from your parents.
Also, for the (upcoming) parents among us: at what age will you give your child his/her first mobile phone?
I bought my own mobile phone (a nokia 3410, which basically could only call and text) myself when I was about 13 years old.

I voted 10 then realised I was 11. Anyway I bought it myself in March 2001. I was the 3rd in my class to get one, and only 5 of us had them by the end of the school year. I got it because I was starting to go into town at the weekend and from that September would be at secondary school so travelling on buses/trains.
The other reason was I won £50 and my phone was only £40. IT was a trium mars, and I got it because it looked nice, the two others with phones had trium galaxys, and I didn't want to be a nokia bitch like everyone else. And it had cool rubber skins for it and customisable cases. Also it had the internet unlike most phones at the time.

Although I never used the rubber skin as it made it stick to the inside of your pocket.

I ended up with one when I was 15 or 16 and it was some old Nokia bar phone. To be fair, I rarely use even my Incredible much for calling or texting. I find it's mostly useful as a mobile tool than as an actual communications device.

I got my first mobile phone Nokia 3210 after graduating college in 2000 (20 years old). Still to this date mobile phones and smart phones interest me less than soap !. I'd rather spend $400-$500 on a pc, gfx etc than one of those annoying gadgets.

I was really young back then, then I started getting used phones from my relatives that still were in good condition, I got like 2 new phones each year lol.
Then at 11 or so I got the first new phone I remember, 3510 it was one of the first phones with polyphonic ringtones, was so cool back then
I used to play space impact like a mad man.

You are assuming everyone was a teenager when Cell Phones got popular. A better question would be, what year did you get your first cell phone.
