Added another PC and monitor on the same power line without any problem.

One of my friend will come at home next WE with his GFX card.

If not solved with new PSU and yet another GFX card I think it can only be a Mobo or software issue.

I'm going nuts not being able to identify the issue.

I do love problems like that, atleast if theyre not mine, solution is most of the time surprisingly easy, i think changing psu is the next step i wouldve taken aswell.

dont you have a multimeter to check if ur psu rails drop under load ?

Yep I've got a multimeter.

Where do you suggest to perform the measurement ?

It doesnt really matter where in the line u measure if its the psu which drops voltage, just measure 3,3v 5v 7v and 12v right from the 24pin atx Plug.

It would be pointless measuring 3.3 and 5v lines because the only one that is used by the graphics card is the 12v rail, and ATX PSU's do not have a 7v line.

Output voltage can be measured using OCCT or AIDA64, no need for a multimeter...

^Was the 12v output logged with a load on the GPU?

Only thing left really is the motherboard, and if the mobo is faulty it can be very hard to pinpoint where the problem lies, but tbh I can't see how a mobo could cause rgb artifacts...

More likely to be between the gfx card and the monitor imo, though I'm no video expert.

I've activaed the log, will see tonight if there is variations.

The lines appears even if no load at all, so I doubt gfx and cpu load will tell us more.
I've no other gfx artifacts and never BSOD or freeze, PC is perfectlly stable.

Between the gfx and monitor there is a cable I already changed 3 times

So perhaps the problem is between keyboard and chair, who know....

I was thinking the same first, but who knows if the pcie chipset has to do something with it...

Theres no 7v, thats right, only me hacking apart psus and using 12 and 5

Hi,

I've reseted the BIOS to default for nothing, the dots are still there so they aren't due to OC:

I still haven't received my PSU so the tests are postponed to next week.

hi, i had similar prob with my 6970 dcII, i simply pluged my dvi cable to another DVI slot on GPU, and the white stripes were gone. But since you've changed GPU and it's still there, looks like it won't rly help for u.

Hi,
Already tried this on both cards, no differences.

Tonight if I find the time I'll change the PSU and I'll come back here with the result.

I bought some fuel and matches in case I got mad about my rig :-P

To follow...

I'm going slightly mad....

Installed my new Enermax PS -> PSU dead.......

Went back to TT, PC restart flawlessly.

I've decided to uninstall my GFX card to replace the termal paste (OCZ freeze) for new Arctic MX-4 (won 3°C) and I remarked the following in the mobo border near the GFC card PCIe slot :

As you can see the lines seems to be a little bit damaged, I should have done that one day during GFX card install after a cleanup.

I think it's probably the root cause of my issues.

If PSU exchange doesn't bring any positive result I'll buy a new mobo.

To follow next week once working PSU received.

See you

It sounded to me like a Mobo problem from the very beginning. The symptoms matched what I saw on an old EVGA 750 SLI FTW board. I switched to this P5Q Deluxe and the problems went away. This was 2 or 3 years ago.

Interferences, ok, but from where ???

Sometimes I've no dots for hours, and sometimes it's a nightmare.

Sometimes it's everywhere on the screen, sometimes only on vids, and sometime only on right of a window (and they follow when the window is moved).

That's just amazing, and so annoying.

When I change the screen resolution to 1280x800 I've no dots at all, above this resolution they appears.

I still wait for the new PSU, and in the mean time I've ordered a DisplayPort to DVI adaptor.

Will also try to revert back to very old drivers, who know, AMD as so many flows with drivers I won't be surprised...

Hello !

Following the idea of electrical interferences I've installed an old power filter (APC Line R) on my monitor.

And since two days I haven't had any lines :-)

Cross finger they won't appears again during WE, but if it's confirmed that a simple power filter solve the issue I've to find the root cause of these interferences.

It's also strange that the UPS doesn't filter them, except perhaps if these "noises" are produced by PC PSU itself.

Hope that I'll put the finger on the guilty part soon.

To follow.

Hi !

Cried victory too early on Friday, lines & dots strike back yesterday morning after two days without any troubles.

As I've had time today I tried :

- Use the filter on PC -> Negative
- Removed the UPS totally -> Negative
- Changed the GFX card -> Positive until now.

So....
GFX card or PSU ????

I've also experienced this morning "wavy" display, and noises on install bar.
That's something new.

Sadly I can't capture these artifacts with a simple print screen, so I'll try to record them.

Really tired not being able to solve this really annoying issue.

Hi!

Not changed the mobo yet, but if I have too I'll probably invest in a new CPU and ram too.

If new PSU doesn't solve the issue I'll return the GFX card for RMA, then, if problem still persist I'll change the whole PC.

If it's the GFX card it will be really strange to have two (5870 & 6970) cards with the exact same problem.
I've installed a 6770 now, let see how things evolve the next few days.

I'm also waiting on the DisplayPort to DVI adaptor.

Hi !

OK, it's now confirmed that's not the GFX card as I also have lines & dots with the 6770.

Three defective GFX card seems impossible, except if AMD has serious problems with high res through DVI or drivers issues.

Hi,

Accell UltraAV DisplayPort To DVI Dual-Link Adapter installed since the past WE, let see how it behave.
Product link :
http://www.accellcables.com/products...P/dp_dvid.html

Anyone else around here with a 30'' monitor ?

If it's an issue due to a DVI output misconception on AMD GFX card I can't be the only one to experience that.
