I guess it depends on the game and the amount of detail already present in the image.

So this FXAA acts like a normal AA, but isn't that resourceful ?

Beta 3 reduced the blurring where it is hardly noticeable, at least in Arcania anyway. I see beta 4 is already out also, with increased compatibility and bug fixing.

FXAA plugin works even on ATI/AMD card, But hands down as an AMD user myself; the FXAA is many many times better than MLAA.
Now I just wish the 'Somebody' or 'Someone' makes the DLL wrapper for DX10 and DX11 executables too!

Ok, so this FXAA will be implemented in graphics drivers instead of showing AA there ? Or it's in beta now ?

Beta 4 can be found here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...w-by-some-dude
This apparently works with GTA IV which makes it very useful as far as I'm concerned.
No AA

Yeah, would like to try out beta4 myself, as I liked this alot more than I was expecting.
Only tested with Dead Space, Lego POTC and Shift 2, but it blurred the image a lot less than I thought it would, and while it was subtle, it was noticeably better than any of the in game AA solutions, and seems with less of a performance hit too.
Anyone tried it with Metro2033, Fear3 and DNF and compared image quality and performance to the in game FXAA.
Looking forward to this, as it can only improve.

ArcaniA appears to look better with beta 4 than beta 2, at least from the screenshots, as previously it looks very blurry indeed to me.

i can confirm it does wotk with shift 2..
with no or very less perf drop...dunno , afterburner osd doesnt work with fxaa hack...
here are some screens....
No AA:

FXAA on:

edit:
actually theres no big performance drop at all...
no aa = 87 frames.....FXAA = 83 frames too...
Just tested with FRAPS...
thats nice...and its not bluring at all...
Please Nvidia go on and finish the FXAA mode so we can all use it with out that hack...

Yeah, I was particularly happy with the results in Shift2 as the ingame implementation of AA looks bad, but still tanks performance when enabled.
This is much better, hope GTAIV also doesnt have too much of a performance hit.

Looks to be around 16% from those screenshots, going from 130 fps without AA to 108 fps with FXAA.

if u open the shader.fx file with the editor u can change some settings as far as i read..
there are mainly 2 options i want to play around with...
Just one thing, does anyone know what these numbers mean..or how big the range is?
example:
Quote:
#define FXAA_PC 1
#define FXAA_HLSL_3 1
#define FXAA_QUALITY__PRESET 39
//#define FXAA_QUALITY__PRESET 12
|
the last two ones..
FXAA_QUALITY__PRESET..
so if i raise the numbers on one of them what does it do? wich one is for what?
if anyone knows or can point me to an tutorial or description i would be happy..
ps, i allready googled...but didnt find what i want..
ha, found it..
Quote:
FXAA_QUALITY__PRESET
//
// Choose the quality preset.
// This needs to be compiled into the shader as it effects code.
// Best option to include multiple presets is to
// in each shader define the preset, then include this file.
//
// OPTIONS
// -----------------------------------------------------------------------
// 10 to 15 - default medium dither (10=fastest, 15=highest quality)
// 20 to 29 - less dither, more expensive (20=fastest, 29=highest quality)
// 39 - no dither, very expensive
//
// NOTES
// -----------------------------------------------------------------------
// 12 = slightly faster then FXAA 3.9 and higher edge quality (default)
// 13 = about same speed as FXAA 3.9 and better than 12
// 23 = closest to FXAA 3.9 visually and performance wise
// _ = the lowest digit is directly related to performance
// _ = the highest digit is directly related to style

i dont know...
i tried it with shift 2 and afterburner was running and all setup but didnt display the osd...when the fxaa was there..dont matter if on or of..
Fraps worked...
gonna test that with other games..
edit:
dead space 2...
fxaa files in the game folder (no matter if fxaa is on or off) + afterburner running = Dead space 2 crashes at start and wont start the game....
Fxaa ON or OFF and NO afterburner running = game starts fine and fxaa is working...
No fxaa files in dead space 2 folder = afterburner works and game starts..
so theres deff something interupting..dunno if its afterburners fault or fxaa...

It probably has something to do with the custom D3D9.dll file the hack uses to bypass the original one and force FXAA in the games. This bypassing must be preventing Afterburner from displaying its own OSD.

Yeah, that is how a wrapper works. MSI afterburner, D3Doverrider and other 3rd party apps work on similar principle..to wrap around DirectX file (if the output is Directx).
-Edit-
D3Doverrider fails to work with older FXAA dll wrapper, gotta check with the new ones he uploaded. But I think I already know the result, the D3Doverrider wont work.
