Default OCZ Agility 3 issues. - 06-29-2011, 14:55 | posts: 2,559 | Location: Australia

I got this SSD on the 13th of June and since then it has randomly turned off 3 times on 2 different motherboards (amd and intel). It's pretty much like the sata cable is pulled out until the system is fully powered down and turned back on. I have tried updating the firmware from 2.06 to 2.08 but it still does it.

Is this a faulty unit?

Thanks.

Have you tried running the OS from a hard drive since?
See if it fixes the problem and also check if the same thing happens with the SSD drive plugged in even though you havent booted from it.

When it randomly turns off, are you ever doing things or is it sat idle?

I haven't tried running the OS from a hard drive, I don't see how that would help since i got the SSD to boot from anyway?

First time i was just watching YouTube, second was just surfing the internet and 3rd time tonight i was just playing World of Warcraft.

Your system may have co-incidently developed a fault.
Its a good idea to see if the problem still happens without the SSD.

nope it's an issue with ocz drives the newer ones on sf-2200 controller, just google vertex 3 agility an theirs thousands of hits.

corsair issued recall on their sf-2200 ssd's ocz seems to think firmware patches will get them through it

Well it happened on another motherboard so it seems pretty isolated to the SSD? None of the hard drives have ever done it.

So in other words it's a problem with my unit and most others out? Firmware update didn't help..

k3vst3r is right, its well known they are messed up.
A friend has one and he is fine for now, I'm going to make him flash new firmware when they have finally sorted it.

What I find unusual in your case though is that your PC shuts down randomly.
I wouldnt expect this behaviour unless there is a problem with power anywhere or the motherboard has a fault.
Weirder things have happened though.

It's an all too similar story i've seen on pretty every forum i visit, guy had 2 unit of Ocz Solid 3 both with the issue random BSOD, shutting down randomly, not been picked up in bios until few power cycle etc.

It's main reason why i went with cruical M4 myself

it figures that was the drive I was about to put in my new rebuild. I guess it's a good thing though at least it'll save me the headaches. Anyone out there running an SSD that is solid?

what is this recall you speak of. i have a corsair force f60 ssd and have not heard anything about that. does this pertain to the newer force drives or the older ones?

So basicly get an SSD without an sf-2200 controller. Is that the recommendation?

Yeah after nearly 26 days I'm finally sending my OCZ Vertex Series-3 240gb back. I have a Crucial M4-256 on the way. Although there have been issues with them too, like most vendors it seems with SSDs. Ugh.

We are all beta testing this tech.

P.S. Don't think if your SSD runs fine for even 2 days it's fixed. I had an up-time of 5 days and then BAM, while my computer was idle DOING NOTHING I got a BSOD in ntfs.sys and when I warm restarted the SSD was not detected. I had to cold boot to get it back. (this is proven to be common it seems)
