Default Unlocking a Blackberry? - 06-14-2011, 19:05 | posts: 4,693 | Location: Scotland

Can anyone point me in the right direction, to unlock a blackberry to all networks? (Free)

I think its ok to talk about de branding mobile devices seeing as its legal to have custom FW's.

if not, Mods, close it down

I don't understand why you let them. Surely you're basically their bitch. Doesn't that mean you can't use your phone with another provider or contract? I use my same phone and change package as I like.

I don't understand why in the US you get abused so much with phones. When I was there I was so shocked when told you got charged to receive calls, that sounds like some concept from the early 90's.

I don't mean to be rude but it genuinely perplexes and puzzles me.

You sign up for a contract that states a pre-determined allotment of minutes per month. Minutes are deducted for usage of the line, regardless of whether it's incoming or outgoing calls. It's based on line connection activity. If the line is actively connected, minutes are deducted. For certain plans, you can negate specified phone numbers from minute usage, regardless of incoming or outgoing call status. In the case of Sprint, for $5 extra per month, you can get unlimited calling to your own home phone line. CDMA phones are, for all intents and purposes, locked to their specified carriers. For example, you can't buy an iPhone from Verizon, then transfer it to Sprint or nTelos. Supposedly the phones are designed specifically to work within the spectrum owned by the wireless carrier...but that's based on information provided by Verizon Wireless Tech Support and, based on that, subject to inaccuracies for marketing purposes. I originally had a Blackberry through Alltel. I was forced to switch to Verizon after their buyout of Alltel Wireless in 2008. I was informed by Verizon Wireless Tech Support that no "Alltel" branded phones could be reactivated once deactivated due to the spectrum they operate on being unavailable to Verizon Wireless. From the outside looking in, I agree....it is rather stupid to essentially get charged for incoming calls, but those of us in the USA have grown accustomed to this practice, just as much as T-Mobile customers have grown accustomed to their practice of "rounding up" usage by as much as 59sec to further limit calling without additional, extortionistic rates. So, if your call lasted 2min, 1sec...they deducted 3min from your remaining allotment. T-Mobile customer service told me that "this is standard practice throughout the industry as required by the FCC"....which I later found to be an outright lie according to Alltel and Verizon customer service employees. We even get forced to pay extortionists fees if we choose to change carriers in less than 2 years.... I recently switched back to Verizon Wireless from Sprint due to coverage issues....it'll cost me $180USD to terminating my contract with Sprint 18 months early. It'd only cost me $175 to terminate my contract with Verizon tomorrow....and I've only been back with them for 3 weeks. Cost me $350 to terminate with T-Mobile after I found out their service is no better than it was 5 years ago....I guess ****ty service will stay ****ty... AT&T has gone so far as to establish data plans that are below the typical usage of the iPhone...which I suspect was intentional on AT&T's part as they're not known for their honest business practices. Cellphone service is a "luxury" item....though it seems most here are willing to give up just about everything to get an iPhone. Being a "luxury" item, we get screwed left and right on pricing and overall service. We've become accustomed to getting screwed on "luxury" items.

You're really not being rude....you're just voicing what millions of Americans are thinking....without being one of them....lol.

That means every call is charged twice.

For comparrison I pay £25 ($40) a month. And that gets me, 900 outgoing minutes (incoming are obviously not charged for) to any uk mobile (cell) or landline phone, unlimited texts and unlimited data). I also got £200 cashback which made my monthly cost over 12 months just £8.33 ($13.50) a month.
My usage is measured to the second. I can use any phone I like, mine was unlocked for free by my network provider so I can use it with any GSM network world wide. My contract was 12 months in length but I could pay £5 a month more for the same but on a 30 day contract.
It just seems so backwards to have all your restrictions when it's 2011. I'm so so glad we are GSM only here.
