Most useful phone/smart-phone? -

Hey all, I'm on Pay-as-you-go with a really basic phone and I've been noticing recently that I've been using all the credit really fast, I think I spent at least £20 on it this month. Now, I was playing around with it when slightly drunk and got it locked, so now I'm debating whether to get it unlocked or get a monthly contract! But, there is soooooo many damn different types of phones that I'm lost!! Seriously.... it's worse than the variety of all the hardware we get now!
I'll really only use it for texting and phoning, maybe the camera/video and internet occasionally. I want a fast, efficent phone, a responsive phone, nothing that might frustate me. I don't want to spend much, 20 quid a month or something.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

for that price, any android phone is going to be your best bet, concentrate on software instead of hardware, for which android to get.

For me I wouldn't replace my HTC Desire for the world....
theres 2 options I would look at;
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mob...learance=false
but starts at 25 a month.
or the newer and smaller version;
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mob...learance=false
starts at 18.50 a month.
Either of those 2 will be decent. My HTC desire is the best phone ive ever had. (ive had 3 iphones aswell)
Only thing to be warned of when looking at android phones is the hardware. For example the new samsung galaxy Ace has only an 800mhz processor, which means it doesnt qualify for Flash support and so cant install it, there are a few other games and such that cant be installed because of its budget hardware.
Id personally pay 25 and get the HD, it wasnt out when i got my normal desire otherwise I would of gotten it myself
****Edit Theres also the Samsung Galaxy S2, which is brand new and rocking some serious hardware, but the deals start around 30 quid.

Got HTC Wildfire and the googlechat is amazing. Hardly ever write SMS or phone someone, we all chat / mail each other, its so easy.
Used Google navigation to drive to IronMaiden gig in Hamburg and used 30MB bandwidth, there & back. So 200MB bandwidth per month is totally ok.

Galaxy s2 on £26 a month. 300 minutes, unlimited txt. no internet I think, but this was what I found after a minute of browsing the net for deals. I've seen a £25 a month deal with around 300 minutes, some 600 texts and 500mb internet. http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/offer/24...dealoftheweek/
the s2 is easily the best phone on the market and it amazes me you can have it this cheap! I have mine on £35/month, but that's because I have more minutes and net.

I went for the Galaxy S2! It's going to be £32 a month (600 minutes, 500mb bandwidth), figured I'd get the bandwidth usage lowered if I don't end using it.
Thanks all!

I am developing games for smartphones and running JavaScript on most smartphones.
I gotta admit HTC got superior specs by far. So if you want smartphone to be able to handle tasks properly, get HTC.
iphone 3 / 4 specs are kinda sad though. Pretty slow, performance could be compared to early 2.1 android smartphones.

Erm excuse me but name one HTC phone that has superior specs compared to the galaxy s2!? Their flagship model is the sensation and it is inferior to the s2. Specs wise and also loses to the s2 in every benchmark...
@evilkiller - well done on getting the best phone on the market...

I'm soon going to order the Dell Streak, for £240 brand new & unlocked you cannot go wrong...
It does not have an Amoled screen, does not have a great camera/video camera, does not have 1gb ram, does not have a dual core cpu......However:
Has the largest screen currently available
Excellent Battery life
Excellent build quality
Sharp screen
Loud sound
I'm buying it mainly for the huge screen, battery life and the fact the speaker is loud...
Ever other phone released after the HTC HD2 has had 5hit sound, poor volume you can hardly hear.
I have no idea why 90% of phones have such poor sound you can barely hear.
My previous HTC HD2 was at LEAST 3 times louder than my Desire HD. Both had poor batteries nevertheless...
Galaxy SII is great apart from poor plastic build quality, poor sound and an average battery life...

It came! Looks real snazzy! Most fancy piece of technology I've ever had! Getting the back cover off really annoyed me.... didn't want to be too harsh, had to get some toothpicks to assist me! Love the screen, really clear and vivid colours.
Just adding my contacts and gonna play around with it

The Dell streak has a 5 incher. It's a cross between a tablet & a smartphone. Same spec as HTC Desire HD (apart from ram), basically a 1gb cpu & 512 ram so it's good enough...

Haha, cool, enjoy! The back covers of MOST phones I've owned in the past have been a bitch to remove, worst was my old Sony Ericsson Xperia, used to break my nails trying to remove the back cover...

Some pics of the streak compared with iphone, htc, just to show the size difference...
It looks too big but trust me it will JUST about fit in your pocket...Anything bigger would not fit, enjoy!

Yeah, best thing about it is the full sized keyboard which is unusual...
It has the gorilla screen which is supposed to be tough, and tough it is...
There was a video I seen on youtube of a guy continuously stabbing at the screen with a pen, and hard, there was not a single mark whatsoever...
Due to it's large size/weight it did not sell too well... That's why is cheap costing only £240 brand new unlocked on ebay...
Here are a few more pics of it...
