Sharing internet across LAN kicks me off -

I have a wifi connection that connects me to the internet, but I also have a LAN connection, through a switch, that connects my bedroom computer to the one in my lounge.
For some reason if I try to enable internet sharing, so I can use both computers for the internet, it kicks me off. I am still connected to my Wifi connection, but can no longer access the internet.
I was wondering if anyone knew why this would be. I have recently reinstalled windows on both PCs, so am sure it's not a virus or any form of malware. It used to work fine, but since the reinstall I cannot get them to connect.
Thank you,
Sam.

So if I understand this, your desktop is connected directly to another machine which is then connected to a wireless router? Weird configuration to say the least.
Can't you connect your desktop to your router directly and remove the middle machine?
If not, ensure that the cable between the desktop and the other machine is a cross-over cable. Many people always screw this up/

No. I'll explain better. I actually share internet with my neighbours. So one computer is connected to the wifi network that has the internet on it - it connects direct to the router through a wifi card. Then, my two computers are connected via an ethernet, through a switch, LAN. The two computers can see each other on the LAN, ie I can share files etc... but when I enable internet sharing on that network it kicks me off the internet connection. I am still connected to the wireless network, but for some reason cannot access the internet. It drops the 'WAN connection', but keeps the wifi network on.
I hope that clears things up.
I could buy another Wifi card for my lounge computer, but as I've had it working in the past (before I reinstalled windows on both PCs) I figured that maybe something has been changed.
Thanks for the help.

What router do you have and what firmware is loaded on to it?
Sounds like a router problem.

Do you enable sharing on the lan or the wireless connection?
It should be share the wireless connection.
In XP the PC doing ths will Ask for and default it's lan IP to 192.168.0.1.
So the second PC must have an IP of 192.168.0.2 or higher. Like .0,.3 or .0.4 with gateway and dns set 192.168.0.1.

Most PC's these days got Auto MDIX on their network interfaces.
@OP
Make sure that you only got a gateway set on the wireless connection on your lounge PC, the lan interface should have a blank gateway, but still an IP address and a subnet mask
