i have a game and make the game SET 3d to minimum and fastest performance and also the restore to previous settings after the game ends. when i am in game i see the game is in the minimum settings but when i use ALT + TAB and go to my desktop which previously had high settings in 3d and then go back to my game, the game becomes high quality too.. any advice?

Hmm. Never sow this behavior. I doubt this is driver behavior. Also ATT can not restore 3D settings until you exit game.
Can you check again this? Run games, play for a whie, switch to desktop and right click on ATT icon. Go to 3D profiles and look for profile is checked.

I have seen this at times, when I alt-tab out of a game. Then, ATT will not restore the previous profile.
