Default HD 6850 BLACK SCREEN CRASH 100% SOLVED NO underclock COMPROMISE - 12-17-2010, 10:54 | posts: 30 | Location: Southern Asia

Fix for the frustrating freeze with stutter and force switch off situation

HA.
(This is a present for you)
1.Download ATIFLASH 3.84 (http://downloads.ziddu.com/downloadf..._BIOS.rar.html)
2.DOWNLOAD ASUS HD 6870 BIOS (http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/8...24.101013.html)
3.Create dos boot flash drive (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ve-create.html)
4.Copy everything onto flash drive. Rename .bin file to easy to type name.
5.Boot to dos and type atiflash -p -f 0 xxxx.bin
6.Install 10.12 CCC2
7.Overclock, mess with the voltages, use msi afterburner to set custom fan and autorun. (EDIT III)
(This actually solves the issue)
EDIT III (Sorry!!! :-P)

8. You must do the following at http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-rade...html?doc=10160 except the author shows a resistor that will increase memory voltage, you need to shade the one just beside it(right of the image). Make sure Memory voltage is 1.4v or 1400mv from the problematic default 1600mv.

The Result.

MSI HD 6850 775/1000 is now Asus HD 6870 (915/1050) and no bloody black screen. I have OC'ed it to 950/1100.

HA HA HAAA....

I guess its final, problem was caused due to heated memory voltage controller. The memory by itself is of very good quality.

No. Its same. 960 Shaders etc. My 3dmark11 score went up from 36xx to 40xx. Default for 6850 is 36xx and 6870 is 43xx. My card is a MSI HD6850. I just used a 6870 bios.
