Hey guys, I am looking to purchase a good helmet camera that can survive the abuse of the military. It needs to be cheap and HD.

Friend has one and made some motorbike + sled videos, looks very good at 720p with good fps (cant remember exact fps, or the model of the camera, but fps might have been 60).

How much is "cheap" btw ?

I have the GoPro Hero HD myself (for biking, skiing, diving, ect.) and it is awesome.
The Water and Shock Resistant Case is really tough.

It can record in 1080p with 30 fps or 720p with 60fps.

There are a lot of videos on youtube(in HD) where you can see the cam in action.

@Hilbert -

LOL, thanks. Would go great with my clown hat:

I also forgot a few key points.

1)- Must use AA (since all my other gear uses AA also).
2)- Waterproof (at least to 6 meters), etc.
3)- Changeable memory cards, so when one is full I can swap it out for a fresh card.

By cheap I mean around ~$200 would be my target.

What I want to do is record my reserve duties and maybe make it into a film similar to "The Alpha Diaries", or at least just for myself.

Actually I was looking more at the footage from the GoPro camera, and I am quite impressed.

@nodo-

How do you think the camera will hold up to hard abuse?

VholdR Contour HD camera has a much nicer form factor than the GoPro. The lens also rotates and has laser alignment.

Here is a motorcycle video I put together using the 720p version.

http://vimeo.com/15238284

IF you go to my homepage at www.vimeo.com/uncledude there is a picture of me on the bike with the helmet cam on.

There is also a 1080p version. Good luck.

As long as it is in the Waterproof Case it'll hold up to a lot of abuse. I don't think you plan to hit it with a sledgehammer ...
I crashed a few times with my bike, while the Cam was mounted. No visible damage whatsoever.
And if the case breaks, you can always order a replacement Case for about $40.

Drift Innovation makes the best helmet cam in my opinion.
Wish I would of bought the HD170 instead of the Hoyt MSR-200.
