Default High Gain hiss on ASUS Essence STX - 11-18-2010, 16:37 | posts: 11 | Location: St. Louis, MO

I recently switched from using normal gain on the ASUS Essence STX with Audio Technica ATH-AD700 headphones to high gain to drive my new Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm cans. When I switched to high gain I was immediately greated with a lot of hiss. I had never heard any hiss from this card previously and searching the ASUS forums did not find any references to hiss. Has anyone using high gain on that card experienced this?

No I not getting hiss from the high gain settings and I been using it since I got my STX with my AKG 702s. See if you got the headphones plugged in all the way in the plug. I know some times when I unplug my headphones to work on my comp and plug them back in. I some times dont plug it in all the way.

Check if SVN smart volume is off. The hiss could be due to that.

I haven't messed with that setting before. What does it do? Are you recommending it to be off or on? I'll check the setting when I get home.

It's a volume normalizer that makes low sounds louder and loud sounds lower - It makes the dynamic range lower. I sometimes use it with my speakers when watching video but I never use it with my headphones.
