GTX 480 0.700v IDLE Voltage, High Overvoltage BIOS (7.00.21.00.80)

Taken from Overclock.net. Credits to them or for who ever put this up on there.

This bios will easily get you around 875 mhz and idle at very low temps (compared to .963v original bios).

I have tested this bios and it is exceptionally stable at just .7v idle and can go up to afterburner's current limit of 1.215v.

I would tweak the idle voltage more to see if it could go lower if i wanted to use nHibitor on a non 64-bit machine, but i havent seen the need so far (since im alredy watercooling). But try it if you can.

Ive tested a bit with undervolting my 465 by editing the bios with NiBiTor. Going lower than 0.800V on P12 did not lower temps any more, maybe 1-2 deg C if you wait 1 hour. Room temp has much more impact than lower voltage on idle below 0.8V. Minimum Voltage i need for P0 and P3 is 0.85V which saved some 5-10 deg C on load.

Well this is also a 480 bios. so it can have different effects. Its only pulling 52w at idle which is great for a 480. But like i said, its not perfect and it can be experimented with at higher idle states. Its good for anyone who doesnt want to take the time to find the exact values that are perfect for them.

Hi, I signed up just to ask a couple of questions:

    1) How do you upgrade the bios on a GPU? And will having multiple GPUs make this more complicated?

    2) How come this bios is stable at just 0.7V? My cards run at a default of exactly 1V.

    Thanks for any replies!

    Nice I'll test soon .

But i have a question : Are you sure that bios have not problem ?

This bios 100% working on any GTX 480 ? Or might not responding on any GTX 480

I actually lowered my voltage of this bios even further. Mine idles at .650v instead of .700v which is only .050v away from the absolute minimum (.605v).

So yes its perfectly stable and perfect for high voltage overclocking (you can go up to 1.215v) as i can get up to 925/1850/2240 on my card. If your kind of eco friendly when it comes to the 480 (lol thats an overstatement), you can use this bios to use less power at idle, while maintaining stability.

I am testing it on one of the first 50000 GTX 480's made (preorder from EVGA back in march), so i know that if its stable on the first parts, its stable on anything from there on (provided you have a sufficient and capable psu).

I use a flash utility called NVturboflash. its like NVflash but already compiled for you so when you boot up with a usb flash drive with the Bios.rom and the NVflash files.

As for when GTX 400 cards idle, they clock down their frequencies. so at Full idle (also known as the P3 state), a 480 will clock down to 51 on the core, 101 on the shader, and 135 on the memory. Since it is a 40nm chip, it can get that low. It also has to do with the 3.2 billion transistors in Fermi that allow the chip to hold large amounts of voltage without constantly pulling more from the wall.

The stock bios have P3 voltage of .963v anyways, so going from your P12 state (also known as your 2D clock), it uses the same voltage. If you use THIS bios, it will be alot lower at idle.

Works fine on my Zotac 480s and has lowered the idle temps by about 5 degrees as well which is excellent.

    Cheers MDA :)

No problem. You can tweak it a bit more to your liking if you use Nibitor. You can go all the way down to .6v if you so desire.

    Interesting !
Are You think this voltage (0.65v or 0.60v ) to respond for my card ?
( 0.60v is very very good Idle Voltage )

Great ! 925 Core And 2240 Mem is very very good Overclocking for 480 and me :d ...

    ok I'll Test this bios

    I Tested This Bios ... ( Nice Nice Nice :D )

Is Very Nice and haven't Problem !

    i'll test by a lower voltage . (0.60v)

    And ..... 0.60v Yes Is posible !

0.60v Very Nice For 2D Voltage

    I Haven't Problem and .... with 0.60v , yes No Problem's

    My Bios

It worked like a charm and my Gigabyte 480 GTX works @ 0.7 V on 2D mode. It shaved 2-3 degrees Celcius of idle temperature, while on lower fan (2% less). So roughly 4 degrees less for this tweak, which seems to work fine also on low 3D mode while watching movies, with similar advantage. Nice tweak, I didn't try overclocking on it yet, but I guess it does that ok as well.

If someone could post the same BIOS with 0.65 V setting I would be greatful, as I never tried bios editting and I am scared to do so. Cheers for the poster of this topic ;)

    Hi

I know that the Voltage regulator on 480 is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than 470's, but check with multimeter the idle voltage ;) you may (or may not..) be surprised... In reference 470, one VID bit is always grounded so you cant actually use anything below 0.825volt.. ,eventhough you put lower voltage in bios from nibitor e.g. and all programs(gpu-z,nvidiainspector,everest) report the low vid, it isnt actually there ;)
