A Brief, Surprise Glimpse At Aliens Colonial Marines

Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford doesn't want you to think that the house of Borderlands and Duke Nukem Forever forgot about their Aliens game. To reassure us the project is alive, his team flashed screenshots of it at Gearbox's PAX panel.

Aliens Colonial Marines is a Gearbox-developed Aliens shooter of some sort that's been whispered about for a a couple of years but been just about invisible to an eager gaming public.

Pitchford said that his studio is continuing to work with Aliens movie studio 20th Century Fox and Aliens games publisher Sega to bring the project along. But he wasn't able to say anything about how or when the game will come out. He did tease the audience with some Aliens Colonial Marines art, though. People, do you want this game?

(I snapped these images from an extreme angle, as I was seated close but far to the right. Apologies for some perspective distortion.)

Hopefully this game will be much better than the dreadfully mediocre Aliens vs. Predator, which managed to turn what should have been an exciting franchise into a dull, plodding one with lame level design, poor A.I. and boring objectives. How can anyone mess it up? The graphics were the only good thing in the game and even they were disappointing.

Observing the time it takes them to finish it...A:CM is going to rock. It's Gearbox, not some second rate developer.

Are those screenshots or arts? AFAIK, old screenies looked really nice and promising back in a day, I wonder what they did with it so far. Can't really say if I'm onto this title anymore as long as I don't see the real deal.

Screenshots look pretty good if they are actually game shots, and not concept art.

Would be pretty impressive if it was considering this game is supposed to be using the Unreal Engine 3, but hoping its at least DX10 and has native AA for starters.

The game was put on hold a while back so Gearbox could focus on finishing up Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and Borderlands.

Shortly after finishing Borderlands Randy did say that development on A:CM would continue, though slowly.

My bad, I thought it said when they announced they're going to be completing DNF, this was put on hold indefinitely. Thanks for the clarification

DNF is basically finished, they are just working on final beta stages, you know last step bug fixes and optimizations... small polishing stages.

Aliens is in development, but not the main focus at the moment. After DNF is released early next year Aliens will probably go on full speed with the new, fourth Brothers in Arms title taking Aliens spot at a very slow development.

A console port?
Triptych studios and 3DRealms developed the PC version of DNF, Triptych finished the PC build. Gearbox came in to help polish the PC version and with the help of Piranha Games port it to the 360 and PS3.

The consoles are getting a PORT.

You meaning DNF, or this, im assuming DNF, as this has great visual by the looks of it.

Being ported to consoles rather than the other way is no guarantee of good graphics, it just means that its the priority platform, and you have to remember that 90% of PC exclusives have pretty poor visuals, since they have to cater to lower spec PC's.

DNF looks awesome, I don't know what you're on about. But that's not the point of the thread. Aliens looks fantastic too. I'm excited to hear about all the co-op features that they are going to put in it. That's going to be my main selling point, methinks. I love playing those kind of games with my buddies.
