Unhappy Newbie in need of alot of help - 07-19-2002, 06:19 | posts: n/a

Hey all. Please excuse me if the length of this post gets out of hand

Anyway, I have a 1.333ghz Athlon K7 T-bird and I hate how people brag about their "New" XP2200+'s and their new 1.8GHZ P4's... So I decided to scrap my computer and I'm planning on purchasing a XP2200+/266mhz FSB, 256MB more ram (to add to my PC2100 256mb), a SOLTEK SL-75DRV5 (Purple Ray) VIA KT333 (the latest Ver.) DDR/SDRAM 266/200MHz FSB Socket A ATA 133/10/66 ABS II ATX MOTHERBOARD, and I am also in search of a new HSF. I have a Volcano 7 right now but i'm not sure if that will be powerful enough. Anyway, now to the juicy part of the story, hang in there!

I have absolutely no idea how to remove my motherboard from the case, and insert a new one. That's not the only problem I have. I dont know how to take off the HSF, and remove/seat the CPU. I'm completely lost here and I would appreciate any kind of help, thanks!

Your mobo should be seated on top of spacers attached to your case with the screws screwed into the spacers from the holes in your mobo. To remove your mobo, just unscrew those screws and then you can take it out. make sure u ground yourself first and make sure everything is disconnected from the mobo and that the power on your psu is off.

I don't know if i made any sense but here's a link to a guide that will be helpful

Go to the AMD website for pictures and directions on how to install the HSF and processor. Read up and just reverse the process. You may need to clean off any thermal compound residue that may be left on the processor after removal. As said before, make sure you're grounded.
