[Solved] Help with saving overscan/underscan setting in CCC

    Dear guru3d'ers,

I have been running ati 10.2 drivers on my MSI 785gm-e65 htpc. In the process of trying to debug an unrelated issue, I tried upgrading to newer drivers. Note: I need to have the overscan/underscan setting set to 0%
(default is 8% or so) due to my TV.

With the new drivers (10.7), while I can easily set the overscan to 0%, I can never get the settings to remain saved. Every time I change resolutions back to one that requires 0% overscan (1080p), it gets reset to the default of 8%! The strange thing is that this never happened with the older drivers 10.2.

Other people have reported the same problem:

Has anyone else noticed this and is there any workaround so that I can use newer drivers?

I've tried all of the recommended solutions of using driver sweeper, using safe mode etc. I even tried TWL's drivers and followed his uninstall instructions exactly. Nothing seems to work.

I haven't tried a full fresh install of Win7 yet, and hope I don't have to.

One thought I had was to install 10.7, uninstall Control Center itself (leaving the drivers), then install 10.2's control center. I've done this but have not had any luck yet getting this to work, but I'm still trying.

Another thought that I had is that this might be related to my display (a 65" Mitsubishi TV). My TV supports refresh rates of 24, 30, and 60 (at 1080p). Yet, the driver thinks that it supports 59 as well. I'm wondering if the overscan settings are being saved under the wrong mode.

Anyway, I'm still struggling with this and would love to hear that someone has found a solution!

    Much Thanks,

    George

    Found workaround!

    Hello again,

I stumbled across a workaround that seems to fix the problem. The trick seems to be:

    1) Explicitly select and apply the resolution and frequency (mode) you want to change: Right click on your desktop, select Screen Resolution. Select Advanced Settings. Select "List All Modes". Select and apply the mode you want.
    2) Then open (or have open) CCC and set the overscan to 0.
    3) After hitting apply in CCC, reboot immediately (don't change the resolution!)

If you repeat this process for all of the resolutions (AND frequencies) that you want to override the overscan on, it seems to save them (YEAH!)

I'm running 10.7 drivers from TwL and have overscan set to 0 in all of my 1080p modes (@ 24, 59 and 60hz).

Hope this helps someone else as this was extremely frustrating and time consuming to debug!

BTW: If you are curious, here is my full Media PC build:
