Back to Ubuntu and folding big projects again. While Smp projects are not so dependent of high frequencies ram , big projects that use up to 3Gb like higher mhz on the ram. 1333mhz like I have now are not optimal.I hope that in a month I can buy some 2133mhz in quad channel, and than I will have a nice boost on the ppd. From ~ 80-90K to 120+K.Right now I fold a 6901 project than gives me 77K ppd and 96k points.A 6903 gives me almost 90K.

That's a Beast, so are the amd or the intel better per watt? that have any effect in your choice or just looking for a quad socket?

ppd per watt yes, by far i think 4p 12 core pull 480-600 @400k ppd (p8101 i think)and if you follow the guide that are around (have a look on hardoc forums for Distributed Computinghttp://hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32)on and read up 4p are alot cheap that 8core xeons for folding any way

and with an oc the number start going up and up

there alot of research you need too do on 4p but it doable and can put out hell of alot of numbers

with the 6200
they fold ok it just they use more power are more expensive and the oc bios does not support them yet

either the g34 16 core interlagos or the 8 core/16 thread intel's. got it. If supermicro would have a standard form factor like the hptx or eatx i would be more inclined...

yep that one of the problems, some people have fitted them in to a HAF-X with a few mods most just run the naked some also by rack or a Spotswood rack/case made by a person on the many forums

would you mind parting out your idea in a little more detail so i can steal/borrow it since you've already done the research? so you need to use linux as well? and maybe a crappy video card? i bought a caselabs case i was planning on using for the sr-x, but after reading the reviews i might go to an sr-2 or your super micro motherboard. http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/2867...al-socket-2011

Actually... ideally my folding phase will pass before i make another investment in it...

best cases in the world are caselabs cases ,the srx has been a flop IMO witch is a shame as i wanted to go down that root one day too the sr2 is not a bad option with it 24thread but with the new 16core limit some peple were reporting that 24 thread less that 3ghz were struggling to complete within the dead line to get the bonus soo this is why so many people are going down the G34 route and in a funny turn the srx and xeons at the moment cant overclock but with the moded bios and sm broad the g34 can.

the caselab case are by far big enuff to fit the sm borad in but the are a few mounting holes need ( i think a few above and below the normal E-atx layout the board does use a few mounting hole of the atx standard it just need more so it can fit). cases with anuff room above and below the normal broad.

if you go two the caselabe forum on oc.net http://www.overclock.net/f/380/case-labs and ask jim/kevin they mite help by making a mobo for it but the would need to know the mount hole positing (i know some did ask but i can't remember the out come)

these are some of the thread that i get my info from
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1617331

this is the guide they use to help people build 4p lots of info good read http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1638127

this is the muskymod for heat sinks
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1662099

hardforum is the best place to go for 4p rigs as the have the most of them and most knowledge in this area

It's about the project 8101 which is very big,not as big as 6903,but the preferred time to complete is set to just 2,4 days. Right now,my 3930k@4,4 is folding this project and is doing very well because I can finish it in time, about 3-4 hours before the limit.Almost 95K ppd but it's a bit hotter compared to 6903, by 3 degrees C.If all goes well I'll get 210k points tomorrow.

It means that we will be stuck just with 8101 projects? I heard a lot of people being unhappy with this project.

but the odds are a bios update would fix that? and aren't the big adv moving to a 16core? so it would make sense to grab the 16's now rather than later?

well it a moded bios so i don't not weather they said they can support them remember it 8 modules so it not a true 16 core and folding seem to be better on the true 12 core but some did say that the 16core(Bulldozer) in the new work unit would perform similar to the 12 core
