Yeah, i was thinking that after i posted it, that might work in a linear game, but in something like this, not so sure it would be that easy.
Using this DRM certainly would slow people down, probably even make the impatient ones buy it if they have the money, whether that would make up for the lost sales from the bad publicity is a different story.

From the little bit of information that is available on S2, it looks promising, I especially like that it will have a greater emphasis on survival.
if it was exactly like the first 3 I'd be happy, if they add some new features but don't subtract anything then I'll be happier.

Assassins Creed2, but it took a few weeks and that is likely to be a much smaller game than this.
Definetly going to be a deterant for the cracking groups, as they will have to complete everything in the game to release a crack, so there will be lots of broken ones before that.

Yes, it had server based content.
And a whole lot of bugs because of that at launch.

Nah, the solution cant be that stupid.
If they need the content, i bet they'll hack their way through, leak it before launch or something. Maybe its just locked in the game installation and the server gives the "ok" to load it.

It would be the only way to stop it being cracked until way after release, as they know fine well it would not take them long to crack it if it was just hidden.
Of course it will make the game unplayable for those on slow internet connections, but i'm sure they already realise that.
Personally i think they won't take it this far, even Ubisoft games now only require you to log in once before play, then you can go offline, so can't see GSC going this far when it comes to it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will not be releasing in 2012
To the prolonged woe of all fellow Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers, GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is back on track - but it won't be scaring the living daylights out of you in 2012.
The company's future was recently under the spotlight as rumours circulated that S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2's development had been cancelled. A few nail-biting days later, and all was put right - except the fact that GSC Game World desperately needed money to kickstart the project again. Still, it's fully confirmed we will see a fourth game in the series at some point:

@EDTAlejandro Stalker 2 is currently in development, yes.
|
But when? Unfortunately, not this year; 2012, despite being the perfect time to release a game with a fierce post-apocalyptic backdrop, won't play host to the Ukrainian masterpiece:

@lefter1O No date at the moment I'm afraid but not 2012.
|
Aww. You'll have to occupy yourself with something else in other to get your scares... or just play that 'screaming baby' part again...

you know..... what gets my goat after reading most of the moaning and tosh in this thread is people writing " i unloaded a whole clip into the npc dood and he still didnt die THIS GAME IS ****" or "i couldnt use this effect while this one was on etc RUINED THE WHOLE FREAKING GAME FOR ME WAHHHHHH" not to forget "i bought all these games and they were all ****e" (why waste more money on **** games you hate if you hated the 1st one ?!?!?!
But come on seriously a whole game/series is deemed crap coz of a minor bug/script problem which can usually be sorted out with a bit of googling.
The mind boggles.

The Ukranian developer said in a tweet today: “To answer the multitude of questions we’ve been getting, #Stalker2 is currently in development, yes. However there is no release date yet.”
It was reported before Christmas that GSC was on the verge of closure, and that staff would be paid until the end of February but that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 had been canned.
However, GSC made a statement in mid-January to say work was continuing on the game.
Optimism remained cautious at the time, as GSC spokesperson Oleg Yavorsky said: “We are still in the process of seeking funding to back up the project. We are hopeful things turn out well eventually. The team really wants to see S.T.A.L.K.E.R. continue.”
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is supposedly releasing this year for PC, PS3 and 360.
A first-person shooting role-playing hybrid, the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was published in 2007 and has since become a cult hit.
Prequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and sequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat released in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
