Talking SMP2 BETA Client v6.30 (NO Deino Or MPICH) - 07-28-2010, 21:57 | posts: 1,210

Finally we now have a very simplified SMP2 Client that is relatively very easy to install Please note the following:

1) There is no need for MPI libraries (This simplifies installation a lot especially if you are a new user)

2) No need for Windows password for SMP2 Client to work (You may use a normal windows password for security reasons)

3) SMP2 Client is still in BETA (in case a FahCore_a1 WU is assigned to you, it will crash the Client)

4) There appears to be an "error message" displayed in the console (not in FAHLog). It is a cosmetic one and can be safely ignored. (Details)

Hopefully, this will encourage a lot of new users to join up as the installation process is now a breeze

...However, this technology is already part of our new v7 client and our plan is for SMP2 to be a standard part of FAH when the v7 client rolls out of beta testing. On a side note, the v7 is currently doing well in QA and I hope we'll have an open beta test of it soon, eg in the next few months if not sooner.

Right now I have upgraded my RAM and am stressing my system, will update you guys soon Happy folding until then

Here's an update on our v7 client efforts. The v7 client is a complete re-write in order to make the client more reliable, simple to maintain, and easier to include features that donors have requested. The first versions will not have everything that donors have asked for, but there will be some significant changes, such as the integration of classic, SMP, and GPU clients, the ability for a single client to handle all of these (eg multi-core + GPU) simultaneously (via multiple cores), a cleaner and more reliable GUI, much better and sophisticated tools for 3rd party developers, and in time the ability to use the FAH client to manage multiple machines easily.
The console version of the v7 client has gone through internal testing and we're starting a very limited alpha release. There are definitely some rough edges, but I'm excited to see it get this far. Assuming there are no show stoppers, I hope that we'll have something ready for open beta testing in a month or two, maybe sooner.

I do know that there were some EULA violations with FAH tracker but they fixed it. I prefer to wait and see for the BETA release which will hopefully be in this Autumn

I wonder when they'll make an single installable client that will do both SMP and GPU that sets it all up during install regardless of what CPU/s and or GPU/s you have
