Default UnderClock Ati 5850 in 2D profile? - 03-28-2010, 17:34 | posts: 2

Hi!!

I'm trying this programm and I see that is possible to set a 2D and 3D profile, is a good idea to set as a 2D profile one with the GPU and memorys underclocked?

This could extend the life of the card? Or have no sense?

Thanks!

No.
Unless the allowed settings let you beat the AMD Power Play idle state's power--typ. 157MHz/300MHz/0.9500V--set a "default" or reset profile as the 2D profile. Then confirm that "default" profile in the 2D slot maintains Power Play. It might not depending on the card's support in MSI AB.
Undervolting the 3D profile could extend the card's life expectancy, but is more useful for power, heat, and noise considerations.
