Okay, over the past few months with more and more games pushing my PC I've been kicking around doing a new build. Well, with finances balanced out and everything falling into place... my wife and I have agreed that it's no problem at all to do so. I haven't followed hardware that closely for a long time now. Mostly because living on a budget, buying a house... wasn't really in the cards. But now it's a go. So, I've got a list of what I'm intending to get... just looking for feedback. Thermaltake Element G Mid Tower Case AMD Phenom II X4 965 Quad-Core + Thermaletake MaxOrb CPU Cooling Corsair 4 GB [2GB x 2] DDR3-1333 ATI Radeon HD 5850 - 1GB Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 motherboard Corsair HX750W PSU Western Digital 750 GB HDD Sony 24xDVDRW Black Windows 7 Professional something So, what ya think? Any specific changes or problems?
Everything's good, I'd go for a SAMSUNG F3 750 GB HDD instead and you don't need anything more than a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installation. deltatux
Thanks. I think I may be able to strike a deal with the guys in our local shop and manage 8 GB instead of just 4. And dropping down to Home premium would save some cash. One question. The MB I've chosen, Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4, would there be any real difference between it and the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H?
I would go with the MSI 790fx but that is just cause i own one and love the 4 PCI Express slots If you wait till May you could maybe go with a 6 core amd for near same price as chosen quad core
Not much different but I wouldn't mind recommending the GA-890GPA-UD3H either since it's newer. deltatux
Okay... a long time since I originally made this thread. We had some issues come up... medical bills and such. So I'm just now getting around to ordering the parts. Things have changed a bit... but one question... I'm wanting something that will be able to play Cryostasis fairly well. Now I know the game is a beast on damn near all rigs and I won't get silky smooth frame rates with it. But my main question, will a 5850 be able to run the game at a decent clip? I know the game relies heavily on Nvidia's PhysiX... But, if I turn PhysiX off will the game perform well on an ATI card? I've heard "horror stories" on other forums that no matter what an ATI card can't run it well. I can't afford an Nvidia 480, so I'd have to drop to a 470 to go the Nvidia route... and while a good card, I've seen a lot of benchmarks that show the 5850 running similar to even outperforming it. Just curious.
Wrong Ram (1600MHz) PC3-12800 Wrong HDD (F3) Rest very good Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX would be better also.
Okay... finally ready to order all of this. Here is what I'm looking at getting... Thermaltake Element G case Windows 7 Home Edition AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad-Core CoolerMaster V8 CPU Cooling Fan System 4GB DDR3-1333 Corsair XMS3 Dominator NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 750 Watt Thermaltake TR2 TRX PSU 1TB HDD 64M Cache, 7200 RPM, 6.0Gb Sony 24xDVDRW Black Any issues/problems? Also, I'm going with 4gb of memory, would going with 8 right off be better?
I hate double posting... but I've ordered the parts. Everything is basically the same as posted above... only things I changed is that I dropped down a 650w PSU as it's more then enough to power what I've setup. And I changed to the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard instead of the 890FXA-UD5. Both are really solid, great motherboards. And the FXA is really great overclocking... but I'm not one that overclocks. So, went with the GPA-UD3H instead. It'll be a while before I have everything, as 460s are back-ordered... but once I get everything in and get it built, I'll get some pictures up.
Well, another post after myself... but... Well, all the parts came in.... and I got it all put together. Now I've just got to install Win7 and do all that spiffy stuff.
Nice rig Is is a Palit/Gainward GTX460? Cooler looks like it EDIT: Yay, I just saw that I hit 500 posts
It's the Palit GTX460 1Gb. I haven't had time to test anything out on it yet... just now got Firefox, Avast and STEAM installed. Thanks for the comments.
nice rig but I would of went with a stronger nvidia video card since you have an xfire m/b. theres a sli hack out I can find it for you if your interested in 2 460`s. Dunno if it works on amd motherboards
I got Palit GTX460 768MB two weeks ago - one of the first available in my country. But it had damaged HDMI port from the start and I had to RMA it - be sure to thoroughly check yours But it's probably my luck Now my card is longer on RMA than in my PC, lol. Anyway, have fun with your new rig :bounce:
It's been about five years since I built this PC. And despite replacing a DVD drive that died, upgrading the ram from 4GB to 8GB... and replacing the 460 that died with a 750ti (on a budget)... it's still holding it's own rather well. But, in a few weeks I'll be giving it a much needed upgrade. Mostly waiting on the last two final parts to arrive... and my week of vacation at the beginning of March. I'll be reusing the Case, RAM, PSU and GPU. I'll upgrade the ram later in the year, and the GPU I'll upgrade when financially possible. But, the parts I am upgrading... CPU: Intel i7 4790K + Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z97 Hard Drive: Western Digital 2TB HDD I was gonna get an SSD for the OS, but needed to cut cost a little bit... so that will wait for a later date. Also, I'm sticking with Win7 for now. I'm not big on 8/8.1 from what I've used of it at work and my wife's laptop. It's nothing that'll put me at top end, but the CPU will be a great upgrade. And the motherboard gives me options in the future.
Yeah, an SSD isn't really high priority for me. More RAM and a stronger GPU down the road will be my first steps. But as for now... I ordered the WD Black 2TB HDD and the Gigabyte GA-G1.SNIPER Z97 mother board yesterday. Those should arrive next week. Then, my vacation is the first week in March, I'll be rebuilding my PC then. I'm also going to be reusing my old parts. As there's nothing wrong with my current mobo and CPU. I've got an old case, another 650w PSU, 4GB or Corsair and an 8800GT sitting around. I'm going to use those bits and my current mobo/CPU to build a second PC for my wife to play her games on.
