Angry GPU stays in 2D clock - 03-20-2010, 02:30 | posts: 4

my gpu has been doing this for sometime at random(and it's godawful annoying), usually after months of poweron i'm playing a game and all the sudden i start noticing that framerates go to hell, i go to RT monitoring and yes, my core is 150MHZ 2D mode(vs 465MHz 3D)

no matter what i di it'll never go above 2D clocks and i need to reboot to get it to work again, this has been all fine and dandy until 5 days ago....
i was using windows on the desktop, no video, no gaming, nada...., random browsing and explorer windows, talking over TS when all the sudden i hear the sound buffer repeating, ZRAT! BSOD!(wiuthout specifying ANY module).

upon reboot, clocks NEVER move from 2D clocks, not even LP3D.

What i do notice in my system event viewer:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: nv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 14
Date: 14/03/2010
Time: 08:52:16 p.m.
User: N/A
Computer: HECHICERO
Description:
Unknown error on L0 -> L0
Data:
0000: 00 00 00 00 02 00 4e 00 ......N.
0008: 00 00 00 00 0e 00 aa c0 ......ªÀ
0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........

these kind of events where there since forever, but usually on L1 -> L0, this one appeared just after reboot when rivatuner applies the clock profiles which UNDERCLOCK the card.

now to avoid dumb questions:
1) the PSU is fine and hyperrated for this card(and it's new)
2) GPU cooling is fine, i have custom fan profile that @ 75° core Dtemp fans goes to 100%, 43 to 100% range, HSF assembly is clean and unclogged and it even has AS5 as thermal paste.
3) i've had this board for years and the AS5 application was many months before and on my old platform
4) when i'm not using the pc i even have a extreme underclock profile for 90/600

specs in case they don't show:
XP SP2, msi NX7800GTX 256MB(G70), xeon 2075, CM UCP 700W PSU

Overclocking 2D clock to 3D range locksup the computer, probably due to lower VID in 2D mode.

So...
how the hell do i force the friggin board to go to 3D and friggin ignore any idiotic safeguard it thinks it's implementing because i can't play squat with the gpu not going to 3D clocks.
OR fix this problem without forcing anything

I had the same problem with my GTX 275. With Rivatuner my gpu would only jump to LP3D settings in any program. I uninstalled RT and it fixed the problem. I ended up just reinstalling RT, possibly updating drivers when asked and then it worked fine (although I can't overclock).

i "solved" the problem by disabling RT autostart OC settings.
The FUN FUN part is that i've lost all fan monitoring and control now!, i opened RT AND gpu-z and they magically wiped the fan monitoring and control in both programs
