    Hey all,

Sorry if this post is in the wrong section, I couldn't find a section on monitors.

I'm in the market for a new monitor. I will be using it for both my computer and xbox 360. I can't decide between resolutions 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080. I realize that LCDs really should only be used on their native resolution (at least that was the idea in the past) but I am a res junkie and would like the highest res possible for my computer.

Any chance of a x1200 displaying 1080p over VGA (or HDMI, I'll buy a monitor with HDMI input if its a must) without quality loss?

    Thanks!
    Rob

I would go with 1920x1080 since its the standard for full HD res (1080p). 1920x1200 would still work, but it would likely either stretch the image or you would have black bars on each side when set to 1080p.

The black bar would be on the top and bottom of the image brother. I have a 1920x1200 monitor which i use with my PS3 and 360. Since widescreen games on consoles are at an aspect ratio of 16:9 you will end up with slight bars at the top and bottom (they are not bad). As the Doctor (name is familiar...have we met at another site brethren )mentioned go with the 1080 set if you are primarily gaming on a console or watching movies. If doing productivity work or primarily a PC gamer then go with the 1200 set but make sure you get one that supports 1:1 pixel mapping or any image that is not 16:10 aspect ration will be stretched across it making everything look like Amy Winehouse :nerd:

Also, you will definitely want to go with an HDMI or DVI connection to the monitor, it looks noticeably better. And if you end up getting a TV, it probably won't support 1080p over VGA anyway.
