Default Afterburner 1.5.0 Beta 5 (2010-1-21) - 01-20-2010, 18:35 | posts: 131 | User is Offline

Dear All

Afterburner 1.5.0 Beta 5 is released. In this version, Unwinder found a workaround to fix shader overclocking in NVIDIA new 196.21 WHQL driver. Also, you will notice a new "K" button in Afterburner, which activate seperated benchmark program. Why "K"? you will download it and find out VERY soon!

Download: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner...up150Beta5.rar

Changelog

- Added voltage control for custom design MSI R5870 Lightning series graphics
cards with uP6266 voltage regulators
- Added integration with external MSI Kombustor stability testing application
(coming soon, stay tuned!)
- Added workaround for overclocking bug of ForceWare 196.21. Please take a note that the workaround is applied only to 196.00 - 196.21 driver versions range in order to ensure compatibility with future fixed NVIDIA drivers. That is wny you may need to force the workaround via ClockDomainIdWorkaround configuration file entry if NVIDIA release a few more versions affected by this problem prior to fixing it

Hi lenehan, according to the "read-me" it is an app. called MSI Kombustor.
Like Garret said, "you will download it and find out VERY soon."
Thanks Unwinder, for continuing to improve on a great little utility.

I took the liberty to edit your post, Garrett_Wu. The new 196.21 "beta" driver from Nvidia you're referring to is already WHQL.

Is it possible for voltage control to go below 1v on AB? That would be great for testing purposes

The upper and lower limit of voltage adjustment is controlled by MSI because of security reason, it won't open to public.

first of all thanks unwinder for the effort of this free program (even if i dont have a msi card it works like a charm) second, im just curious, why not integrate the stress test within the AB app, i mean just for conveniance 1 app to rule them all. is there like some technical tedious dificulty?

They are completely different program written by different developers (but same brilliant!), user can receive better support (upgrade, flexibility) when they're seperated.

Can't wait for the Kombuster software. There isn't any program right now that has error detection for ATI 5 series cards so it will be very welcome.

Nobody promised to give you error detecting and artifact testing in Kombustor. It will be graphics card stress tester just like original FurMark.

well i hope in future versions it would, it would make a lot a sense, for the nature of the app.

I was using precision but since trying this out I feel this is better. Just would like the option to have a mini mode that just displays the temps and profiles to be able to switch to for normal use but all the same very good application

While using Forceware 196.21 user defined software auto fan control does not work. Is there a way to fix this?

Software auto fan control is called _software_ not just for fun. It is hardware and driver independent feature, it works as soon as fixed fan control is provided by driver and functioning properly. And there are no known issues with fixed fan control mode under these drivers and with your hardware. Summarizing: there is no such known issue and there is no fix on the way. Check your system and configure it properly.

Not sure is this a norm, as if I set the "EnableUnofficialOverclocking" to 1 and I set the profile 1 in AB to OC 950/1200 (5870) save and applied but the core and memory clock will not down clock to in 2D mode. It keep staying 950/1200 until I reset it to default. Thank you.

Yes, it is absolutely normal and expected. Thank ATI for that. Lack of PowerPlay support is one of reasons why these unlimited overclocking features are called UNOFFICIAL and provided with no support at all. I don't provide it as an option available to end users to minimize the risk of seeing "it breaks powerplay, fix it ASAP". And I assume that those who unlock it via CFG editina are understanding what to expect from unofficial ATI clock control interfaces.
