Default more wierd display problems... - 11-22-2009, 21:57 | posts: 219 | Location: NYC | User is Offline

While building my gf's new pc I ran into a very weird problem. The actual build went fine and the $30 windows 7 home student edition (its an update only btw, NOT a fresh installation, did a workaround though so it works now).

Her PC specs are:
Intel i5
ASUS P7P55D
4GB G.Skill
ATI Radeon 5770
320GB WD hd
Acer H213H monitor

Here's my problem: Windows 7 under 1920x1080 and all other resolution cuts off the edges of the screen. (similar to the way CTRs would do it if you stretched the screen) Tried looking for the screen position/stretch buttons but there aren't any on the monitor and can't find how to adjust the screen position in Win7. However, during bios there is no cutoff. Also, no such feature in software provided with the monitor. How do i make it work on full resolution?

Also, the screen goes to fine and i see all the edges as i should when i run 3d mark vantage.

EDIT: when i run 1680x1050 or similar aspect ratio it shows everything.

You shouldn't have to stretch the screen... Have you installed the monitor drivers?

The monitor drivers are installed. Even installed the extra software that came with it but it turned out to be completely useless as usual.

Magicdave26: I tried to do that but it first won't let me adjust it and second its already slid all the way to the right.

ok, I tried swapping out the HDMI cables and even with another one same problem. However, I noticed that on the video card the connector doesn't go all the way in as in the monitor. Right now I got it running with a DVI cable in the full resolution (1920x1080). There isn't any benefit going via DVI over HDMI, right?

HDMI will take audio and DVI wont so unless you want audio to go to the monitor.. no, there is no difference.
