Hey guys, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 laptop which has the Quadro NVS 140M graphics driver & Windows XP x32. I recently got Left 4 Dead 2, and am trying to milk all the power I can get out of this laptop to play the game acceptably. This laptop is part of my college's domain, so the monitoring forces a lock on upgrading or altering many of the settings/drivers etc. I went to the lenovo website and tried to install their recommended drivers for my laptop, but that is even blocked off.

Is there a methodology to overriding this invasive control scheme so that I can upgrade the quadro drivers for higher performance ?

Thanks

Sure: Drop out of college.

But seriously, why don't you just bring the thing over to the IT department and tell them you want to upgrade the drivers. They must have some way to let you do that.

By the way, why did you ever agree to let them lock down your laptop like that? Is it just a rental, or do you actually own the thing?

You would need to know the local user account login for the laptop, or know how to get into the server and change your domain user privileges to allow installing drivers

If they are not good at locking down the laptop, you may be able to boot into safe mode, and log into the local admin account if it is not passworded (maybe having to press ctrl + alt + del two times at the log in screen), then setup a admin local account from in there.

Other than that, formatting is about the last option.
