Default Purple screening on me!not blue screen - 11-19-2009, 01:11 | posts: 456 | Location: Australia,melbourne | User is Offline

My computer randomly freezes. It goes all purple and 10 seconds later it fully hard locks.

I thought its drivers but i did full clean uninstall in safe mode and install ati 9.11 drivers. Didn freeze at all yesturday... Yet it was 33 degrees.

Anyway games work fine but it only happens in windows..

I did one hour stability test using AMD drive. No problems.

It can happen 20min after i boot up the computer, or hours later or even a day later.

Original story: i had an asus board and wouldnt work with my ati 5850, so brought new gigabyte board and worked without format. It only froze once... Then i formated it two days later and ever since then its been purple screening me. Its not bad but when im emailing or doing something it happens then...

Bad driver somewhere It sounds like, try booting into safe mode and let it run something for longer than it takes to crash in normal mode, if it doesnt crash, deff a driver issue.

You dont have anything OC`d do you ?

I uninstalled drivers for half a day and seemed stabled.. But couldn take it..lol need the drivers.

Ohh the Catalyst AI could be it. I disabled it yesturday and my computer didnt crash. I enabled it today and crashed hours later!

Disabled it now

Remember it can take up to 6 hours to crash. So i cant stay in safemode for a full day let alone without drivers in normal windows.

Anything else?

i think the AI is broken in 9.11. i have missing textures in borderland, also when i boot it the first time i get a purple screen also, until i alt-tab.
if i set the AI to off, i dont have missing textures or purple screens.
all 9.11 betas and the WHQL have this problem for me

let us know how it goes.

yes ive also got the same with 9.10. in 9.10 the profile is missing, and in 9.11 its broken lol
ive renamed it to bioshock.exe (had to download a crack because steam doesnt allow renaming) it fixed the problem for me.

well catalist AI is either on or off (can be set from CCC)

games just dont turn them on or off.

so hopefully your system stays stable with AI off now

or do you still have the purple screen with AI off too ?
