Wasn't it a better idea, to get a lower wattage PSU and the rest money invest in an HD5850?
Anyhoo, it would be just a better way to go, but well, have fun with your new shizz!

Actually, no.
This is not just a gamer computer.
With power supplies, you always want 50% headroom.
that said, it is ALWAYS better to have a power supply that is far more than you need.
in this way, the power supply is not stressed.
It also allows for future expansion-processor/2nd vid card.....with no fear of overloading the power supply.
As for ATI, I have found their equipment to not be reliable.
I have also found they have many issues with their drivers
I have also read, ATI has real issues with it's win 7 drivers.

You can also Google the exact same thing but for NVIDIA. I'm just saying that because I hear and read the same exact response all the time.
But I do hope your happy with your hardware.

I find it funny how the fanboys show up first to bash you. Enjoy the purchase, I have had my 216 core GTX260 and have not even had to OC it yet, though I am not playing anything too demanding at the moment. Should be a great card for gaming and for whatever else you need. I as well have had issues with ATI in the past, the last 3 cards were Nvidia and before that I went back and forth from ATI and Nvidia. Each to his own.

RV800 is a "beefed up" RV7xx, which means there are a few more flaws to work out. nVidia had the same issues with G80 and G92. Every "new" architecture provides new challenges for driver teams. Even if the "new" architecture is nothing but a modified version of the previous. nVidia's driver team still hasn't perfected the drivers for GT200...and will have to learn to write drivers for NV60/GT300/Fermi (whichever you prefer to call it) when it's released. Architecture changes always provide new challenges, that's just how it goes. With HD4800, I had no issues with ATI's Win7 drivers....in fact, my benchmarks were on par with what I believed they should be based on it's position against my GTX275 (which scores less in Win7 than it did in Vista). So, even with Win7 being available to developers in both beta, RC and RTM for the period of time it has, Win7 drivers aren't really mature yet. Win7+"New" architecture = more changes than normal. It's going to take a few releases more than usual to get the drivers where they should be.
If you remember, nVidia had the driver issues with Vista....Didn't see anyone jumping ship when they couldn't get SLI to work properly, while Crossfire worked properly from day 1...
Anyone who honestly thinks nVidia or ATI has perfect drivers, needs to come back to the real world. Every driver has some flaw in it....the difference is whether or not it actually effects you. Just because flaws in 1 maker's drivers effects you, doesn't mean it effects everyone...or even that their drivers are "crap". Just means that the driver doesn't work properly for you. My 9600GT never functioned properly....ran it for 6 months and tried every driver release during that period of time. The card never worked properly....should I have assumed that nVidia's drivers were "crap" because of that experience? If so, I'd be running an HD4890 instead of a GTX275 right now.

Yup I sure do see the heavy amount of "fanboy-ism" in this thread. But no really, everyone has problems with software and hardware because they all have their bugs. Its a fact, simple as that.

Exactly.
Some people prefer ford's some prefer chevy's.
I have always had good luck with nvidia cards.
I suspect this card should keep me happy for 2-4 years.
As for ATI, just because i have had bad experiences and choose not to purchase one, does "NOT" mean I am bashing ATI card owners.
(That may not have been clear in my original post.)
The only issue that has REALLY bothered me is I have a bad back right now.
This is preventing me from installing my new equipment, as I take the time to route wires and such and can't lean-over my computer to do the quality work I do.
As most people would say, I am actually WAY too excited over my new hardware.
I think I will reload crysis just to see it in dx-10.

The difference here, is Ford and Chevy "fanboys" are far more adamant about which they prefer.... I've never seen an nVidia "fanboy" or ATI "fanboy" wearing a shirt with a picture of a guy peeing on the manufacturer he/she dislikes... Nor have I seen any "nVidia Sucks!" or "ATI Sucks!" t-shirts at the computer shows here....yet I see "Ford Sucks!" or "Chevy Sucks!" t-shirts at every car show I go to.
At any rate, enjoy your new card when you can install it. I've got a BFG GTX275OC that does very well for it's purpose...in fact, I'm loving the card still. I've had it since June and expect it to last at least til GT400 comes along. Long as it works for you...no reason to consider replacing it, or regret buying it. In fact, looking at the HD5850 benchies that Hilbert did, I can't see any reason to choose HD5850 over the GTX275, unless you simply want DX11. They're close enough in performance to make either a good choice at the present time....plus, DX11, with the except of a few features, can be emulated by CPU with minimal performance impact. You just can't use tesselation and a few other minor features that require hardware level support.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to bash you for choosing nVidia over ATi or something... Your choice is yours, that's just what I would do
About the drivers, I have of course heard, that ATi drivers are crap, but I wouldn't say that nVidia's drivers are perfect as well. Just like mentioned above. TBH I haven't really got any driver issues that would just make me wanna change my gfx card maker for that... Anyhoo, I wanna try ATi for myself experience.
Have fun with your new toys OP

I've been hearing the "ATI drivers are crap" claim for the last decade....have yet to see any proof of the claim....to any extent.
