Hello I'm living with roommates right now with a D-LINK DIR-628 wireless N router way on the other side of the house on a lower level and I have a wireless N PCI adapter in my desktop... however I get terrible signal strength and am considering a wired setup for way more reliability (if I can convince the roommates to let me haha).

Anyways where I get lost is that I also have an xbox 360 in my room and would like to set that up wired as well, preferably without physically changing the ethernet cable back and forth every time.... If I were to buy a CAT6 ethernet cable long enough to get to my room could I just plug it into a second router and connect my other devices through it? or is there a safer/easier way? like some sort of splitter or switch or something?

Any input helps please give me your best thoughts thanks!

You just need a small (4 port would probably do you) 10/100 switch. Should cost around £15-25ish, netgears low end fs series are ok

Doesn't need any wireless capabilities....

Run the CAT5 from your router into your switch, and run 2 additional lengths of CAT5 from your PC to the switch and from your 360 to the switch.

5 minutes work....

Edit yes that switch you linked to would be fine, it is a 10/100/1000 so if you have a Gb LAN port and want to make use of it then fine, but it is more expensive than you need to spend, the white plasic NG switches are not my favorites, I prefer the prosafe series

one of these http://www.netgear.com/Products/Swit...hes/FS105.aspx
would be fine and cost half as much

Thank you very much for the response grunger. A much more pleasing alternative came up though.. I now have the modem and router connected to the wall in my bedroom so i can have a hardwired internet connection and it's more central for everyone else using it so that worked best... just going through really old coaxial cables as it's a really really old house.
