PC Modern Warfare 2: it's much worse than you thought -

WTF !!!!
Quote:
|
Modern Warfare 2 has long earned the ire of PC gamers for its lack of dedicated servers, but Infinity Ward has now announced that it's taking away much more than control over hosting with the game in one long face-palm of a question and answer session. No servers, no console, no mods, no problem!
|
Quote:
|
The question in the chat showed just how far the gulf between what gamers want and what Infinity Ward is giving them has become. "Is there a /record feature? Answer yes... please. We're trying to give you a 'chance'," the gamer asked. The answer was a simple "No."
|
Quote:
DudezTY: Since we cannot kick people in ranked matches, how will we stop hackers who get past VAC?
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.
It's a shame that it's impossible to show a jaw dropping on an online chat. There will be no way to kick players, and Infinity Ward seems sure they'll simply be able to keep hackers and cheaters from playing.
That's a pipe dream, of course, but with no control in the hands of the players, no ability to control who is hosting, and no ability to kick or ban players from your game, you're just going to have to take their word for it.
kaRMa: Please give me a direct answer. On the PC version. Are all games hosted by players, and is there a five-second delay when host migration is in effect?
Vince-IW: yes.
Why is this a problem? Because Infinity Ward also revealed in the chat that the game will pick who hosts. You have no control over it. If the host leaves, there will be a five-second delay while the game picks the next best host. Players have no way of controlling who is hosting, and of course we know there will be no dedicated servers.
The host will of course have a ping advantage, which should be mitigated by the software "having a great tolerance for latency," and a five-second pause if the host rage-quits before the game restarts will ruin any flow the game enjoyed until that point.
|
Quote:
Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.
This is the amount of work that went into the PC version: you are given the ability to use a mouse, to use text chat, and to adjust graphical settings. Are your fears now put to rest?
|
I think some of this or maybe all of it has been posted before not sure.

Its standard practice at a place of employment for staff to think their bosses are clueless w*nkers.
I can imagine the situation at Infinity Ward at the minute is infinitely worse.

The worst thing that could happen to gamers is: what if it sells extremely well.. Then everyone will follow suit.
I tell you what, If PC games continue to be watered down like this. I'll stick with my PS3. No sense in building a high end machine to game on if the games you're going to be playing are half ass. Sigh.
I'll buy it for PS3, though. People suck more on the ps3 LOL.

Hmm yea PS3 is wicked but god, i cant use controlers to play FPS ) tried to many games, nah,i simply hate it. but the rest of the games are fine. I see what you mean by No sense in building a high end machine to game on if the games you're going to be playing are half ass.and then they complain about piracy. Im getting really pissed off with paying about 30-40 pounds for a new game, which promised amazing graphics, good story line etc and what do i get in the end?!really badly designed game or a very poor consoles port(e.g. GTA4)
Hoping MW2 will be good tho..but im worried that it might be a total flop on PC

I host Borderlands, so this game really doesn't mean much to me. I may get the PC version still if the SP is good. I just can't do the FPS controller thing. Halo 3 and Killzone 2 are exceptions, since there isn't much of a choice.

Um... Yea. When I want to host my own server, I love the idea of my internet being eaten up leaving extra bandwidth to be right around 0. That really helps my voip and my xfire and and internet program i might of had running in the background. At the same time though, i'll have 0 ping which will result in what is essentially a legal hack. Overall sounds like a fing brilliant idea.
|
I find it so funny that we're going backwards in evolution
There already was a network called WON back when HL (the first one, yes) was released, which would be the master server of some games, as well as serve the community. It failed.
@AndreasGuido : It doesn't matter how bad you are with console sticks, for all console games do have an aimbot to 'help you aiming'.
@kylzer : I've read most of the interview, and the answers given to PC users could be stated of 'bold' at very least. If those guys are PC gamers and love PC gaming, I don't want to be one of them, for having to tell so many lies and bull just to sell some games is really disgusting. 'It's for a better user experience' hah!
If anything, it seems like they want console users to come to PC by making it easier for them. What they are accomplishing is PC users to buy the game on console.
All in all, someone is going to get fired in several months, and it won't be me

IW seems to be solely trying to destroy PC gaming, basicily if we buy COD they succeed.
And If loads pirate it they use that as an excuse as well.. seems like a losing game, its gotten beyond a joke really.. I sincerely hope their sales plummet so severely they never try this stunt again.

I really like CoD4, CoD WaW was OK but a little dark to me, in as not too easy to see opponents. I had really high hopes for CoD6, but the more I read the more I don't think I'll be wasting good money on this.
Too bad really. I had really high hopes.

That is so true. It's like them saying "why wait for PC gaming to die when we can just speed it up ourselves". They're basically adding fuel to the fire, and they probably actually want people to pirate it and make it the most pirated PC game ever so they can use it as an excuse. Sure it's just a [conspiracy ] theory, but who knows.

I was going to buy the game, mainly for SP not MP since I'm not really bothered for MP. But I've decided not too, cause if I do buy it will show that I'm supporting them. They can go screw themselves!!

even pirating this junk should be boycotted...lol. we need to send a message to infinity ward, make a piece of s^%$ product and lose money...just do not understand a company that does the polar opposite of what their customers want. that's a really messed up business model there. if they make more than $200 on the pc version, we have failed as a community.

i agree, just to show them those affected dont really care about it anymore, especially when they added to the retail price because they 'know' people will buy it.
Even my mate who buys every game under the sun said he'll pirate this just to not support it, i was pretty shocked( as i was planning on borrowing it off him for the SP campaign but steam killed that anyway lol )

There's money in porting over to PC. Especially since direct x 11 is supposed to make that easier. Only company that's going to be hurt here is IW and I couldn't give a rats.
