Cool Recommend me a good oldschool hackn slash and side scroller PS3 - 11-02-2009, 08:34 | posts: 5,703 | Location: muncie, indiana | User is Offline

I'm interested in playing a good hack n slash game, reminiscent of LOTR the two towers on ps2/xbox.
I played Conan and aside from poor graphics, i didnt care much for it, felt cheap. Golden axe beast rider got poor reviews.
So far, Two Towers has been my the best hack n slash title i've played since the 16 bit era, i'd love to find one similar.
so what else is out there in this genre?

I'd also like an oldschool side scrolling shooter for ps3 if any is available

thanks for the suggestions.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed for the side scrolling shooter.
God of War 3 will be out soon. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is pretty cool. Except the PS3 version takes out the blood and replaces it with purple smoke.

I'm mostly on my 360 though so I'm not sure what all is in the PSN store.

god of war 3 looks pretty good, i'll keep it on my radar. Aside from that one I'm kinda hoping for a medival fantasy type, not the behind the back 3rd person view, but the fixed camera style like how Two Towers was, i really miss those arcade types like that.
I tested out LOTR: Conquest but its behind the back style play and i couldnt get into it.

I noticed R-Type is on PS3, is it a remake or a whole new one? or it may have been on PSP, not sure, i glimpsed it on PSN.

Sacred 2 is out there. Has different camera options, one of which is a set North is up setting. Not going to say its a pure hack'n'slash (its a diablo like game) but you sure can do alot in the game. It has some hangups and isnt perfect but its fun and long.

Heavenly Sword is also a good one. Not everyone liked it but its a solid game, looks great AND has Gollem (okay, the actor) as the villain. Story is okay, but its a solid arcad-ish hack'n'slash game. Camera is a fixed camera aswell (if I remember right).

Heavenly Sword is one of my favourite games, i loved it but know that many didnt, thats well worth a play through, NG2 is good aswell but pretty hard. Dragon age is out soon, which is hack and slash sorta thing, what about DMC4 or something like that.

erm, dragon age isn't a hack and slash... I'd say as far as old school action games go, DMC4 is great or wait for God of War remake.

assuming its the same as the xbox one, its a half and half, its the same game as one of the previous ones (think it's 3), and you can press a button in game to switch from normal retro graphics to modern 3d

edit, its not that, its just the playstation one put onto the psn

Well what kind of Side scroller you're looking for? Castlevania Symphony of the night is awesome. It's on the PSN for PS3.
