Default 8pin power compulsary? - 11-01-2009, 14:55 | posts: 84 | Location: London | User is Offline

hey guys, i have this old system sitting in my loft for a year now and i need to make a web server. so i thought lets bring this thing to life again.

EvGA 590i with AMD x2 3GHz cpu.

its old stuff but for a webserver it would be pretty sweet

now i went off to buy a PSU and i bought a 400W one, but i forgot to check stupidly that i needed a 8pin power along with the long big main power connection.

now this is the thing IS THAT 8 PIN POWER IS COMPULSARY FOR CPU POWER UP? cause i power on the system without it and i got NOTHING. well it all powered up but there was nothing on the screen and no nois either. i guess it was alive but without the CPU it was in COMA? lol

please let me know what u guys think? the mobo pic is below. the 8 pin is next to the heatsink in the middle.

so do i need to get a PSU that has a 8 pin along with the long big 22pin power plug?

thanks for you help in advance, cheers

and happy lateeeeee Halloween xD

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=3204 Props get something like that, id imagine the 4pin then would be able to power up the other 4 pins too with a converter

also did you use the molex at the left side of the board too?

You can get a molex to 8pin adapter as well.
