Default Problems With Connecting To Online Printer Windows 7 - 10-25-2009, 19:31 | posts: 7

I want to connect to an online printer. When i connect to it using my xp machine it works and prints a test page perfectly. windows 7 it cannot seem to detect it. The OS running the print server with online printing is Windows Server 2008.

Does anyone know anything that will help solve this problem??

I had the same problem with my print server in Vista and Windows 7 while it was working 100% in XP.

This is the only way I can get it to work:

1. click on "add printer"
2. create a new port
3. choose "local port" (Even though it's not a local port, I know.)
4. click on next
5. enter the port name (in my case it's \\PS-22E2F7\PS-22E2F7-U1, for example)

The standard procedure with selecting the IP address, etc. does not work for me in Vista/7 for some reason.

I hope this info is going to help you a bit, AaronWJM360.

I tried that but it still didnt work. By the way i'll just add that it is an internet printer so therefore I have to enter an address such as http://<servername>/printers/<printername>/.printer

i noticed vista has the same problem with connecting to internet printers but I cannot find a resolution.

The printer does install when i put the http:// address in as the port name but it does not connect to the printer.
